We met at the opening of the new club in town. He was a VIP, but I didn’t recognize who he was. I didn’t want to go, but Geneve had dragged me along. I wasn’t in the right mood. Well, face it, being dumped by a guy who left you for a girl that had scraggly hair and skinnier than a rake isn’t very comforting. I had been waiting for this even for weeks, we even got the invitations which Geneve’s dad had got because someone gave it to him. I was down in the dumps but as we entered the club, it was packed with people and I couldn’t help but feel a little enthusiastic but it all. We were quite lucky to get in, most people would absolutely die to go. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed these 5 people entering a roped off area, “Must be some celebrity,” I muttered, making a mental note to see who it was later.

“What?” Geneve shouted over the music.

“Nothing! This place is groovy!” I replied.

“Yeah! Let’s get to our seats!”

I followed Geneve and her boyfriend, Jason Kim (ay least, i think he is), to a less dense area. It was quite early, but the most people were already up and dancing to the music. My little bit of enthusiasm left when Jason and Geneve left to dance. I was all alone, sitting awkwardly behind all the action. Josh (my boyfriend) was supposed to come with me, as my date, but, too bad for him, he broke up with me before I had a chance to tell him that I had invitations. So one spare invitation was left to waste. I looked around the club. It had a very, modern feel to it. I stood up and walked to the bar to get a drink. Sitting down, I wondered what I was going to do for the next three hours. Adjusting my black strap on my dress, I turned around and found him sitting there, all alone, quite bored. He looked at me and smiled.

“Hey,” was all he said.

“Hey,” I replied, so I wasn’t the only loner in the hottest club in town.

“What is a pretty girl like you sitting here all alone?” he asked with a mischievous playing on his lips.

“I was just waiting for you to ask me to dance,” I returned the smile.

He acted like he was shocked but he asked me to dance. As he lead me to the dance floor, I couldn’t help but notice this tingly feeling I had tugging at my heart. Josh was quickly forgotten. I had expected myself to sit at the club thinking about Josh and what he would be doing now – watching a basketball game – probably. But no, here I was, dancing with an extremely hot guy called – wait, what was his name again? But then the DJ put on a slow song, and I didn’t want to spoil it by talking through out the whole thing so I shut up, and he didn’t ask me my name either. I guess I was kind of disappointed but hey, I guess this is an easy night, right? We danced to one more slow song and several fast songs and then I had to rest. We went back to our seats, but by then, the question had already slipped my mind. He didn’t want us to go to his seat because he said it was by the toilet or something and he only went to the bar because he didn’t want to put up with the smell. He was so funny! We talked some more and I found out that he dropped out of school and went into the entertainment business. I acted like I knew what he was talking about (like nodding my head and everything) but I had no idea what entertainment business was! I mean, the field is so big, he could be anything. But I couldn’t think about that for long because he had so much to talk about! We danced some more and talked some more and before long, it was already past midnight. We said our good-byes but I only saw him again outside, with four other guys with him waiting for their car or something. Well, I was anyway, (waiting for JASON to come pick me up, not him – what was his name again? hah I wish) Oh right! His name! I spent the entire evening with him and I didn’t know his name! Jason came around with his car. Geneve went in and I told her to wait for me. collecting my courage, I walked over to him just as he turned around. The first thing he said to me was –

“What did you say your name was again?”

I let out a small laugh, “I didn’t, I’m Rachel Wylie,” I held out my hand to shake

“Well,” he took my hand and gazed into my eyes, they were so blue I could almost get lost in them, it was like I was in a trance or something, “It was great meeting you, I’m Nick.”

We held that gaze for a few seconds longer until suddenly I snapped out of it because his friends had already gotten into their limo (Hello, LIMO?? Wow, they must got some serious cash on them) and was shouting to him.

“Hey Nick! We gotta get going! Save your flirt for later! We gotta get some sleep!”

I blushed and that was when I realized that he still had my hand. I pulled it out and waved a goodbye to him as I watched their limo drive away into the silence of the night. Well, not SO silent. I was still standing there looking into the direction that he had gone in. Nick eh? I practically jumped ten feet when Jason honked his horn.

“Alright, Alright! I’m coming!”

When I got into the car, Geneve went totally ballistic.

“Who WAS that guy? He’s so hot! Did you get his phone number? Are you guys gonna go out sometime this week? Oh my god what’s his name? Hmm… he kinda looks familiar, where have I seen him before?”

She went on and on and I was just like, “hmm, I wonder happened to Jason while they were dancing? She was probably spying on me and Nick so much that she didn’t realize she danced into the toilet. (haha, that’s a joke by the way) Jason seemed kind of pissed off so I leaned forward to his seat in the front, not mentioning totally ignoring Geneve (well, I couldn’t help it if she was ballistic right?)

“Hey Jason, you seem kinda peeved.”

“I’m not.”

“See you are pissed off. What’s up? Geneve just likes to talk, don’t mind her. She’s just excited for me.”

Jason didn’t answer. I actually didn’t know him that well, I always thought that he was kind of… weird, you know… freakish. I still don’t understand why Geneve likes him. But then again, Geneve is weird. I sat back in my seat and realized that Geneve had shut up.

“Hey,” I pushed her hand a bit.

“Yeah?”

“His name is Nick.”

She smiled slightly and waited for me to go on. “That’s a weird name.”

“You should talk! You named your cat Sock! Anyway, he… hmm… actually that’s about all I know about him.”

I couldn’t help laughing at Geneve’s bewildered face. She looked like her cat (SOCK) just choked on tofu or something. (it’s true! Her cat DOES eat tofu!)

“Hey easy come easy go right?”

“Not a hottie like that Rach! I can’t believe you! And what did he say to you when you ran desperately over to him?”

“I did not run desperately!” I denied.

“Yeah right, your face had ‘I am desperate for a boyfriend!’ written all over it!”

“Ok, ok! Whatever! He asked me for my name.”

“What?? You don’t ask for people’s names at the end of the date!”

“Well, then this is an exception. Besides, I probably won’t see him again so it doesn’t matter.”

Boy was I ever wrong.
