This is too much
He decided to go outside to take his mind off things. He tried shooting some hoops, but the ball never went into the basket. Brian's mind kept wandering back to what he had done.
He looked up at the stars as if trying to find an answer of where Nick was. As his eyes came back down he saw Nick sitting on the roof, knees drawn to his chest.
Brian climbed up the ladder and took a seat next to Nick.
There was a moment of silence that Brian broke.
"Nick, listen man, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. She's my cousin. How could I not invite her? I thought you were over her already."
"I know that Brian. But do you have any idea of how painful it is to see the ex that cheated on you after 4 years? I mean I'm over her and everything, but she hurt me, and I'm not over that yet."
"No, I don't know how you feel and I'm not gonna pretend that I do, so all I can do now is give you my deepest apology."
"No, there's one more thing."
"What's that?"
"Promise me that I won't even have to talk to her unless I do it on my own."
"I promise. Scout's honor", he joked.
"Thanks Bri."
"Welcome. Now let's get inside."
"Good idea. I'm starving."
Shantel was on the phone when they entered. "Yeah here he is. Hold on a sec.", she said, "Nick it's for you."
She handed him the phone and Brian and her went into the kitchen so they could give Nick some privacy.
"Oh hi angel!!! What's up?"
"Nothing. I just miss you so much."
"Me too. When are you coming again?" "Wednesday."
"Awwwww!!! That's too far away!!"
"I know", she said sadly.
"Hold on a sec will ya?"
"Sure."
"BRIAN!!!"
"Yeah?", he asked walking into the living room with an apple in his hand.
"Can Maya come here early? Like maybe tomorrow?"
"Sure."
"Okay... Maya?"
"Yeah?"
"You're coming here tomorrow."
"I am?"
"Yeah. I'll make all the flight arrangements and I'll call ya back."
"Ok. I have work but I guess I can say that I'm sick or something.
"Great. I love you!!"
"I love you too. Bye baby."
"Bye."
After making all the arrangements and calling her back to tell her that she would be landing in Kentucky at 12:00PM, Nick went to bed with a smile on his face.
