Word Is:

An Interview with Jack Grisham of TSOL

AJ: What is the current relationship between TSOL and Posh Boy Records?

Jack: It's good and we have spent years trying to work things out.  I am actually friends with Robbie now.

AJ: Is it true that Nitro Records bought the rights to "Beneath the Shadows?"  If so, are they going to be releasing it?

Jack: If they can find it.  We sold it to them, but no one knows where it is.

AJ: After progressing musically over the years in different bands, does TSOL interact musically differently than you did in the original days?

Jack: Of course and it's been hard learning how to write songs together again.

AJ: What are some of the newer bands touring today that you enjoy?

Jack: Too many to list - Good Riddance, Swinging Utters, AFI.

AJ: It seems like everyone today in the punk rock community is branding every other band a "sellout," even though it almost never applies.  What do you think about this?

Jack: It is a joke.  The Sex Pistols were on EMI and the Upstarts were on Warner Brothers.

AJ: Is the Joykiller over, or is TSOL going to be your only project?

Jack: Yeah, the Joykillers gone - at least for now.

AJ: How is the new TSOL album coming, and will it be "Dance With Me"-esque, "Weathered Statues"-esque, or more like "Beneath the Shadows?"

Jack: I think it is kind of a cross between all three but you know until it's done.

AJ: After touring with TSOL in the early eighties, and touring again now, has the punk community changed for better or for worse?

Jack: Worse there was way more unity and a real sense fo purpose back then.

AJ: Is it true that the new TSOL album was going to be released on Epitaph?  If so, what happened?

Jack: We were not ready to record and the stuff we had then wasn't good enough.

AJ: Do you like ska or ska-punk?

 Jack: I like people.

AJ: TSOL has one of the most intimate, exciting live shows I've ever seen.  What kind of touring will TSOL be doing once the new record hits the street?

Jack: As much as possible, the live shows are what makes playing music fun.

AJ: What do you think of "Maximumrocknroll?"

 Jack: Never read it.

AJ: Will there be any keyboards or synth's on the new album?

Jack: There will be whatever we want.  I think an Accordian might be nice.

AJ: Now that TSOL has cleaned up and gotten back together, what is it like to start over, yet still continue the legacy of TSOL, and pass it on to the next generation?

Jack: It's been really good, it is almost like we never stopped playing but it would be even better if Todd was still here to share it.
