Chapter Six

At 8 o’clock the next morning, while Lexi was still asleep, Tina and her assistant choreographer began to audition people for the video. Over 200 dancers showed up, and by noon they had only cut down to 75 people. Finally, by five in the evening, they had cast ten girls and eight guys for the Lexi Morrow video. They were told to report back in the same studio the next morning and be ready to dance.

The same afternoon, Lexi was in her first professional interview with Seventeen magazine. She would be premiered in the April issue under the Backstage Pass section. The interview would be printed as follows:

Introducing…Lexi Morrow

by Heidi Sherman

Full name: Alexis Stephanie Morrow

Hometown: Boston, MA

Where she’s lives now: Orlando, FL

Upcoming CD: Bottled Emotion (Arista)

Sounds like: A mixture between Mariah Carey and Pink.

“My first encounter with music and art was when I started taking ballet and jazz when I was five years old,” Lexi tells Seventeen. “From there my interests began to grow in the arts. I started singing songs on the radio like Whitney Houston and the B52’s. Eventually I got into heavy duty acting and singing. Once I got to high school singing was my main interest and career goal.”

Lexi was one of the lucky one’s. This Diva-In-Training has known that she’s wanted to be a singer since she was 12 years old. “My parents are both very business oriented, so when I told them that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life they tried to change my mind. My mom kept on trying to convince me to be a lawyer or a doctor, but they both finally accepted what I wanted to do. That was only after I promised them that I’d buy them a house in Miami when I made it big,” Lexi laughs.

And it looks like she will made it big. Lexi achieved her goal singing a Mariah Carey song in a kareoke bar in Orlando. If it didn’t seem like luck wasn’t already on her side, she has Tina Landon (who has also worked with Janet Jackson and Christina Aguilera) choreographing for her, Wayne Isham directing her fist video, and *NSYNC’s JC Chasez as a producer on her CD. “I definitely lucked out when it comes to who I’m working with. Josh (JC) is an extremely talented singer-songwriter, and he has influenced me a lot. We actually wrote a duet together, and it’ll be on my upcoming album,” she says smiling. We’re sure that the entire album (to be released in mid May) will be amazing if it’s anything like her first single “Slight Obsession”. “I just want to make power ballads and awesome upbeats and be the next best thing since sliced bread like everyone else,” Lexi says sarcastically. Spoken like a true Diva.
