Chapter Eighteen

After performing and signing some autographs in the TRL studio Lexi headed across the street to the Virgin Mega Store to sign some CDs. After this she and her entourage made their way back to the hotel. On the way there checked her cell phone and saw that she had a new voice mail. It was JC. He asked her to come by his room when she got back so he could talk to her. She knew what he wanted to talk to her about, and she knew that he was worried about the phone call on TRL.

Lexi knocked on JC’s hotel room door, and it only took a couple seconds for him to open it. “Omigawd, are you OK?” he said taking her hand and leading her inside.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I was just caught off guard, but I’m not even sure that it was Matt…”

“Oh c’mon, Lexi. Did it sound like his voice?”

“Yeah…but…”

“But nothing, Lex. That was a scary call, and who else would make it besides Mattt? Who could possibly know about us besides him and be that angry about it?”

“I know I know,” Lexi said sitting down on the edge of the bed, “But I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about. I mean I’m here and he’s there.”

“You’ll be back in Orlando in a few days, Lexi. What then?”

“Then nothing. It’s not like he knows where I live or anything.”

“That’s true, but do you know how nervous this makes me? I knew we should’ve called the police when that happened back in December.”

“Josh, that was the last thing I needed. I did not want my name in the papers before my single came out. It wasn’t worth it.”

“Safety first, Lex.”

“I know. You’re definitely right about that, but what could’ve come from it? He would have gotten a slap on the wrist and be sent on his merry way. There was no point.”

“I don’t think so. A restraining order would’ve been appropriate,” he said pacing back and forth.

“Maybe, but I moved right after it happened; and there’s no way he knows where I live.”

“But, Lex…”

“…and even if he did know where I lived he wouldn’t be able to get in because there’s such tight security. The only way he could possibly get in was if he knew someone in our development, and I strongly doubt that.”

“I see what you’re saying. But that was still the voice of an angry man on the phone today, and Lord only knows what he’s capable of.”

“Josh, I don’t think…”

“Lexi, he’s done it once. What makes you think he wouldn’t do it again?”

JC was right. Lexi never expected Matt to act like he did the first time, so what would stop him from doing it again? Lexi touched her left cheek remembering what happened about half a year earlier. JC kneeled down in front of Lexi and rested his hands on her knees.

“Look, I don’t want to upset you, but you’re safety means a lot to me. I don’t want that jeopardized. Especially considering what he’s done to you before.”

Lexi dropped her chin to her chest, closed her eyes, and sighed. “So what should I do?”

JC delicately picked up her chin and gazed lovingly into her chestnut eyes. “Promise me not to do anything that will put you in danger. If you see him or he calls you or whatever…let me know. Let anyone know. OK?”

“Yeah, ok.”
