At about 2 AM Lexi was sleeping, and the moon faintly supplied light to the room. She gently awoke to the sound of footsteps in the hallway, and she opened her eyes to see the door being slowly opened. She blinked a couple of times to clear her sleepy eyes, and she focused on the figure standing in the doorway…it was JC. He was wearing a white wife-beater, striped pajama pants, and a mildly serious expression. He closed the door behind him and sat down on the bed next to her.
“Josh, what’s wrong?”
“Lex, I’ve got something to tell you, so just bare with me, ok?”
Lexi shook her head in agreement while she sat up in the bed. She wondered what in the world could be so important that it couldn’t wait until the morning…I guess she was about to find out.
“Ya know when I first met you in August I new something was special about you, but I never thought that…” JC paused to collect his thoughts. “You’re one of my best friends, and I don’t want any of that to change. I just hope that…” JC stopped again.
“Josh, what is it? Whatever it is you can tell me,” Lexi said as she put her hand on his knee. JC sighed. “I love you. I’ve loved for a while now, but I’ve been afraid to tell because I wasn’t sure what your reaction would be or what might happen between us. There, I said it.”
Lexi looked at him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. She couldn’t believe this was happening. How could it be that they have been in love with each other for all this time and didn’t know it?
“I-I love you, too!” Lexi said in return.
“Really? That makes me so happy! I don’t know what to…”
JC didn’t have a chance to finish his thought because Lexi leaned in to finally kiss him. They had been dreaming about this moment for months, and it was happening. They began to kiss more intensely and JC was eventually lying next to Lexi on the bed. He got under the covers with her, and they began to…
Lexi gasped as she sat up in the bed. She looked around herself in a state of confusion and almost forgot where she was. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was 7:52 AM, and realized that it had all been a dream.
She lied back down with a thump and thought about her dream. But it was so real, she thought. Whatever. I’m sure that if Josh was in love with me he would’ve told me by now…right? I know what I need. I need a sign. No, no, I need help.
Lexi switched on the television and watched part of Good Morning America. She was sure that no one else in the house was awake because it was so early, especially JC. He had said that he was taking her into the city today. She wondered where he was going to take her.
She flipped through the unfamiliar channels of Bowie, MD and eventually got up to get ready for the day. At about 10 o’clock there was a knock at her door.
“Come in!” she shouted as she put on her black boots.
“Are you awake, sweetie?” Karen asked as she poked her head through the door.
Lexi chuckled. “Yeah, I’m up.”
“And you’re dressed and everything! You must be a morning person.”
“Actually, not at all,” Lexi smiled. “I guess I just slept well.”
“Well, I always say that good sleep meant that you had good dreams.”
“What! I didn’t say that…” Lexi realized how stupid she was being. “I’m sorry. I must’ve misunderstood what you said. Good dreams does equal good sleep.”
Karen laughed. “That’s ok, dear. Josh is awake too. I think he wants you to come downstairs.”
“Oh, ok. Thanks, Karen.”
“No problem, Lexi.”
Lexi went down the stairs and into the kitchen where she saw JC in an apron over the stove. She instantly began to laugh.
“Omigawd! Do my eyes deceive me? Or is Joshua Scott Chasez cooking?”
“Your eyes do not deceive you, my lady, for I am in fact cooking,” he said in a fake British accent.
“Do you do this often?”
“Kinda…in my time off at least. You made me breakfast, so I’m making you breakfast.”
“I see, but do you really think the apron was necessary?”
“Of course! But it was basically for affect.”
“I see.”
“Oh my good Lord, Josh is cooking!” Tyler said as he entered the kitchen in his pajamas.
“That’s the same thing I said,” said Lexi. JC gave Tyler a dirty look.
“I don’t seem to remember the last time you cooked, little brother.”
“Shut up,” Tyler joked.
“That’s what I thought. Just tell Mom and Dad that breakfast is ready.”
“Yeah, ok.”
