Nothing especially spectacular happened in the meeting the next morning. It was decided that Lexi Morrow’s first single would be “Slight Obsession.” Because that song was completely finished, it would be sent out to radio stations across the country the following week.
They also planned on flying Lexi out to Los Angeles the last week of January for a few weeks. During this time she would record and re-record a few songs so they had more selection for her debut album. She would experience her first professional photo shoot for the cover and inside of her CD, and she would also be shooting the video for “Slight Obsession.”
Throughout the meeting, Richard noticed that the chemistry between JC and Lexi had changed drastically. They were both acting professional, but because he knew Lexi so well, he picked up that something was different.
The meeting was over by about 11:30 AM, and JC walked Lexi to her car. He was about to kiss her goodbye, but they saw Richard approaching them.
“Hey, Rich. I guess I’ll leave you two to talk. I’ll talk to ya later, Lex,” JC said.
“Ok, bye.”
Richard watched JC as he walked away.
“Richard, is anything wrong?” Lexi asked.
“No, not yet. Is anything going on between you two?”
Lexi looked at Richard not knowing if she should lie to him or not.
“No, Rich, we’re just friends.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course.”
Richard always lied. So why shouldn’t Lexi lie this once?
“Ok. I’ll take your word for it,” Richard said with a smile.
The whole drive home Lexi couldn’t stop thinking about what Richard said. In an effort to drown out her thoughts, she turned on the radio.
“That was BB Mak with their new hit ‘Our Love Will Never End.’ Up next we have Johnny Lang, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some Mariah Carey, but first I have some news for all you *NSYNC fans out there. I have a fax from *NSYNC’s management and it says that the boys are planning a two-month tour across the US. They plan to release these dates on February 1st, so mark your calendars! Of course you'll be able to win tickets from 106.7, so keep on listening for that! Now here’s Johnny Lang with ‘Mixed Emotions…”
A few hours later, Lexi’s mind drifted to Richard being so anxious to know if anything was going on between her and JC.
“Why would it matter anyway?” Lexi thought out loud. “People are gonna find out about us eventually…Whatever.”
Lexi was right. People would definitely find out about her relationship with JC. It’s too bad that she didn’t think about how they would react when they found out, but she was about to…
