Chapter Twenty

Lexi smiled and kissed JC. They ended up back on the sofa just as passionate they had been in the early morning of New Year’s Day. After fifteen minutes, Lexi broke her lips away from his.

“I don’t think we’re ever gonna get to bed the rate we’re going.”

“Yeah, I agree…” he said kissing her again. “This sleepover thing isn’t gonna work, is it?”

“I want it to,” Lexi said with a sigh, “But now I don’t think we can sleep in the same bed without…ya know.”

“Yeah, I know. Ok well, I think I’m gonna get going now before we change our minds.”

“I think that’s a good idea.”

They walked to the door once again, and JC gave Lexi soft kiss on the forehead. Before he closed the door behind him he said, “It’s better this way, ya know.”

“And why’s that?”

“I don’t have my sleepover bag with me.” Lexi laughed, locked the door behind him, and headed up to bed alone.

Lexi laid in bed listening to the sound of her ceiling fan. She couldn’t sleep because she was thinking about too many things: the meeting the next morning, her album, JC…She finally gave in to her need to talk to somebody about all of this and picked up the phone and dialed.

“Hello?” a sleepy voice said.

“Hi, it’s me. I woke you up didn’t I?”

“Yeah, but I’m sure there’s a good excuse. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong.” Lexi paused. “I just…so much stuff is going on right now and I’m not really sure which way I’m going anymore.”

“Tell me about it,” the droggy voice said.

“Part of it is my album. Pretty soon I’m going to have to make a video, and I’m just not sure how I’m going to handle all these changes that are going to come with my new ‘life’.”

“Lex, that’s nothing you should worry about. It’ll probably just come naturally.”

“Maybe, but that’s not it, Nicki.”

“Well, what else? JC?”

“Yeah.”

“I thought you guys were doing well.”

“Oh we are.” Lexi laughed. “There’s just all this sexual tension and we don’t want to act on it yet.”

“But you want to sleep with him, right?”

“What do you think?”

“Ok, dumb question. Then what’s stopping you?”

“Honestly, I don’t know. Part of it is the fact that I just out of a long-term relationship less than two months ago. I don’t want to seem like some kind of slut for rushing into another…”

“Lex,” Nicki interrupted, “That is the last thing you should be worrying about. If you were a slut there’d be a guy you just met tonight laying in bed next to you.”

“How’d you know about that?!” Lexi joked.

“But seriously, take it at your own pace. You’ll both know when you’re ready, and you know that.”

“Ya know I really miss talking to you everyday.”

“Yeah, me too. You better invest in some phone cards so yu can call me when you’re touring in Germany!”

“Haha…I wouldn’t go that far…”

“I would. You don’t know how talented you are, Lexi. You’ll do fine.”

“I pray you’re right.”

“Well, I’m gonna get back to sleep. I’ll talk to ya later. Good night, and don’t worry.”

“Thanks. Good night.”
