Chapter Nineteen

They piled into JC’s jeep and put their seat belts on, but JC didn’t start the engine. Instead, he looked at Lexi and handed her a blindfold.

“What’s this for?”

“I told ya that where I was taking you was a surprise.”

“Oh c’mon, Josh, just tell me!’

JC poked out his bottom lip and gave her his best puppy dog face. Lexi laughed accordingly, sighed, and slipped the blindfold on over her eyes.

“Happy now?” she asked as she blindly turned her head in JC’s direction.

“Very,” he answered giving her a quick kiss on the lips.

Wherever JC was taking her, it was sure taking a long time to get there. They took many turns, and after 40 minutes in the car Lexi was starting to wonder where in the world they could be going.

“Dude, are we there yet?” she asked.

“Yeah. Hold on.”

She heard JC roll down the window and pay what sounded like a toll.

Oh great,” she thought. “We’re going on the highway. I hope we’re not going to the beach. The water is way too cold.

Soon she felt the car park, and JC got out to open her door.

“Can I take this off yet?”

“Not quite yet. Just let me lead you. You’ll know where we are soon.”

Lexi heard noise, so she knew they were in a public place. They were driving for a while, so they couldn’t possibly be in Orlando. Where were they!?

“Ok…now!” JC said as he took off Lexi’s blindfold. It took a few seconds for she eyes to adjust in the sunlight, but then she finally saw where they were.

“Omigawd! Are you serious? This is awesome!” she exclaimed as she hugged JC.

“Well, c’mon. Let’s go!” JC said as he slipped on his sunglasses and baseball hat.

They stood in line, and when they finally got to the front the woman said, “Welcome to the Magic Kingdom. Enjoy your day!”

JC and Lexi walked hand in hand down Main Street towards the rides, and Lexi asked, “Why in the hell did it take so long to get here?”

“I wanted to throw you off. I thought that if we got here in fifteen minutes you might know where we were going.”

“Very smart.”

“Yeah, I know.”

They rode the rides all day long and only stopped to have lunch, and because they had Disney World passes and not tickets, they could hop from park to park as they wised. JC was afraid that their day might be ruined if someone recognized him, but thankfully no one did.

Once it got dark, they headed over to Epcot to go to the World Showcase Lagoon and watch Illuminations. Lexi leaned on JC as they sat on the grass and watched the amazing fireworks.

They considered going to Pleasure Island, but they agreed that they were both tired and should go home since they had a meeting at ten the next morning.

The car ride home was filled with pleasant conversation, and this time they were home within fifteen minutes. JC walked Lexi inside, and they sat down on one of the velvet, navy blue sofas she had recently bought.

“So…” JC said.

“So…”

“Well, I guess I should get going.”

“Yeah, we have an early day tomorrow.”

Lexi walked JC to the door and gave him a kiss.

“Good night,” he said softly.

“Wait,” Lexi mouthed gently. “I don’t want you to go.”

JC stroked her hair. “I don’t want to go either…”

“Look, we’ve slept in the same bed before, and nothing happened. Why can't that be the same tonight?”

“I know, sweetie, but that was different.”

“What did you call me?”

“Sweetie.”

“Oh. I like that,” she smiled.

JC chuckled and kissed Lexi. “So you think we can do this without doing this?”

“There’s only one way to find out…”

“Ok,” JC smiled. “Let’s go to bed.”
