Chapter Seventeen

The minute Lexi hung up with JC she immediately called Nicki and Jennifer. She hadn’t talked to Nicki since she got back from Maryland, and neither of them had any idea what was going on between Lexi and JC…Lexi was sure that they would be happy to know.

Ring ring ring…

“Hello?” a tired voice answered.

“Jennifer? I did I wake you up?” Lexi asked.

“Yeah, but that’s ok. What’s up? I haven’t talked to you in like forever!”

“Yeah I know. How was your New Year’s Eve?”

“Great! We went to a party at Nicki’s new boyfriend’s house.”

“New boyfriend?! When did this happen?”

“Like two days ago. Don’t worry…you’re not that late.”

Lexi laughed. “Well, tell Nicki to pick up the phone. I have something to tell you guys.”

“Oooo…something to tell us? What’s it about?”

“I’ll tell you guys when Nicki picks up the phone.”

“Ok, hold on. Nicki!!!!” Jennifer yelled, “Pick up the phone! It’s Lexi!”

Lexi heard another line pick up, and Nicki said, “What are you doing calling before 4PM on New Year’s Day?”

“I just wanted to say hello to my best friends and old roommates…and to tell you guys something.”

“What? You and JC are madly in love with other, you’re getting married, and you want us to be bridesmaids?” Nicki guessed with a laugh.

“Close,” Lexi replied.

“What!” Nicki screamed. “Spill it!”

Lexi told her friends everything that had happened the day before.

“…and then I he walked me to my car and kissed me. Then I went home.”

“You went home!” Nicki yelled. “You’ve got to be kidding me! Please tell me that you’re telling a horrible joke to trick us!”

“Nope. I went home.”

“WHY?!” Nicki and Jen said in unison.

“Because I didn’t want to take things so quickly. Matt and I moved fast when we first started seeing each other, and we all know how that ended.”

“Lex,” Nicki said, “Matt and JC are two different people. Whatever happened between you and Matt happened because of him, not because of what happened when you guys first started going out.”

“Well, nonetheless, I think it’s a better idea to keep things under control. I mean I work with him, so there’s that extra risk of mixing business with pleasure.”

“Pleasure?” Jen asked sarcastically. “What pleasure? I didn’t hear any pleasure in that story.”

“Haha very funny,” Lexi replied.

After talking for a little while longer, Lexi hung up with her friends and finally hopped in the shower. After this, she wondered what to do with her day. Then she remembered that she was going out with JC tomorrow on, technically, their first date! Of course they had gone dozens of times before, but this was different. All of a sudden she felt like she needed to impress him in some way. So, she did what every girl does before a first date…she went shopping.
