Chapter Sixteen

Lexi laid in bed staring at her ceiling fan. She had been trying to sleep for a while now, but all she could think about was JC. She tossed and turned in a sleepless bliss and wondered if the same thing was happening to JC.

About a mile away in the same community, JC was sound asleep. Although he was not kept awake with thoughts of Lexi, his dreams contained only her. He dreamt about them walking hand in hand along the beach, laughing with each other early in the morning, and he even had a dream that he was watching her walk down the aisle towards him in a magnificent white dress.

Lexi finally fell asleep by 4:30 in the morning and didn’t wake up until the phone rang at noon.

“Hello?” Lexi answered half-awake.

“Don’t tell me that I woke you up?!”

“Yes, Richard, some of us have lives and stay up very late on New Years Eve.”

“Hey, I have a life! So why were you up so late? Does it have to do with Matt?” Richard chuckled.

Lexi never told Richard about the situation she had with Matt. She really didn’t think that it was necessary.

“No, Matt and I aren’t together anymore.”

“Ok, so another guy?”

Lexi laughed. “Maybe…Rich, did you call for a reason or just to give me the third degree?”

“Yes I called for a reason, Lexi. We need to have a meeting to decide which single we want to release first and plan to shoot a video for it.”

“I thought we decided on ‘Slight Obsession’?”

“Well, we discussed it, but I think that we should think about some of the other up-tempos. We need to make sure that it’s the right one.”

“Alright. When’s this meeting going to take place?”

“Tuesday in conference room B at the studio. It’ll be you, me, a few producers and a couple other people.”

“Sounds good.”

“So I’ll see you there around 10AM?”

“Yup. Bye, Rich.”

“Bye, Lex.”

After laying in bed for another twenty minutes Lexi got up to take a shower. Just as she was about to turn on the shower the phone rang again.

“Hello?”

“Good morning, beautiful.”

A huge smile spread across Lexi’s face the minute she heard his voice.

“Good morning to you too. Did you sleep well?”

“Of course I did…I dreamt of you all night.”

Lexi omitted a girlish giggle and immediately wished she hadn’t done that.

“Well at least you got some sleep.”

“You didn’t?”

“Nope. While you were asleep dreaming about me I was tossing and turning thinking about you. Almost makes me wish that I hadn’t left last night.”

JC smiled on the other side of the phone.

“Really…well I can make it up to you.”

“And how do you plan on doing that?”

“I’m going to take you somewhere tomorrow.”

“Where?”

“I can’t tell you that.”

“What’s with you and not telling me what’s going to happen?”

“Oh, it’s just part of my fun personality!” he said sarcastically.

Lexi laughed. “Well, at least tell me what to wear.”

“Something casual. I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning at nine.”

“You want me to wake up early on a Monday? You’ve gotta be kidding me!”

“Don’t worry. It’ll be worth it.”

“It better be!”
