Chapter One

It was about 6 o’clock in the morning on December 22nd. The sun was not yet up, however Lexi was. JC’s and her flight left at 7:25AM, which meant they had to be at the airport at 6:30. As Lexi brought down the last piece of her luggage, there was a knock at her door. She opened it and saw a wide-awake JC.

“Ya ready?”

“Yeah. Lemme just grab my cell phone charger,” Lexi answered.

“Hey, Lex?”

“Yeah?”

“Ya know we’re only gonna be there for a week, right?”

“Yeah…”

“Then whyare you bringing three bags?!

“Look, I haven’t lived in a cold climate since I was ten years old. I had to buy a winter jacket, sweaters, gloves, a scarf, and heavy shoes. The only pieces of clothing in my bags that I didn’t have to buy for this trip are pants, socks, and underwear. Do you know how much room warm clothes take up? That’s why I have three bags, ok?”

JC began to laugh. “You’re so cute when you try to get angry.”

“Damn, it didn’t work?”

“Nope,” JC said still laughing.

Lexi and JC proceeded to carry her bags out to the car that would take them to the airport. Lexi was expecting JC’s Jeep to be in her driveway, but instead another vehicle was parked there.

“Wow, a limo. Very nice.”

“Yeah. I can’t leave my car at the airport for safety reasons, and this is always how we get to the airport, so I guess it’s just second nature.”

“Oh, ok.” Lexi kept on forgetting what JC did for a living. She then noticed that he was wearing his usual disguise of a baseball cap. It was so strange to her because she had never really seen him in his “*NSYNC element.” She began to wonder what it was going to be like when she finally encountered it. The two of them got in the limo and went to the airport. They checked in, checked their luggage, and made their way to their terminal. At about 7:10, they heard a woman’s voice over the PA system.

Attention passengers: Flight 8682 with non-stop service to Washington DC will now begin boarding at gate G2. We will board those passengers in first class, children traveling by themselves, and adults with infants or small children. Again, flight 8682 with non-stop service to Washington DC is now boarding at gate G2 .”

“Well, that’s us,” JC said.

JC and Lexi took their seats in first class and continued to sit through all of the things that they should do in case of an emergency and so on and so forth. Just before the plane made its way down the runway, Lexi began to realize where she was going and whom she was meeting.

As her nervousness grew inside of her she finally blurted out, “So how cold is it in Washington DC?”

“Right now? I’d say about…25 or 30 degrees. Why?”

“Nothing, I just hate the cold. You know that.”

“Yeah, I know, but I still don’t understand how a girl how was born in Boston and lived in a million other cold places could hate the cold. Didn’t you live in Washington DC at one point?”

“Yeah, but it wasn’t until I moved to Florida that I realized how much I hated the cold. I didn’t have a concept of year round warmth, so it didn’t exist to me.”

“Very philosophical…”

Lexi laughed, “Sorry. I over analyze things way too much.”

JC laughed with her, “Yeah, but it can be a good thing.”

For the next 20 minutes there wasn’t that much talking. JC was reading a book and Lexi was looking through a magazine. Well, Lexi was pretending to look through a magazine. She had thought about meeting his family before, and she thought that she was fine about it. However, since this was the day she would be meeting them, a lot of doubts and different scenarios started forming in her mind. What if they didn’t like her? What if she made a bad impression? What if she was left out the entire time because she wasn’t part of the family?

Lexi glanced over at JC. He was reading his book with the most serene look on his face. As she looked at him she realized that she could never feel uncomfortable around him…he’d done too much for her. While she thought this, JC felt someone’s eyes on him and he looked at Lexi.

“Lexi? Are you ok?”

She snapped out of her thoughts and answered, “Oh, yeah. I was just thinking about meeting your family. I’m kinda nervous.”

“Well, you shouldn’t be. They’ll love you! I mean if I lov...” JC cut himself off.

“If you what?”

“Uh…if I loathed you it would be a different story…but I don’t, so they’ll love you…” JC answered slowly.

“What?” Lexi giggled. “Josh, what you just said didn’t make any sense.”

JC reddened in embarrassment hoping she wouldn’t see through his cover up. “Yeah, I know, I’m sorry. I guess this high altitude is getting to me.” JC couldn’t believe that he almost said that he loved Lexi! He never really thought about actually being in love with her. What boggled his mind was that he just began to blurt it out without even knowing it. Now he needed to be careful with his words.

“Well, regardless of what you say I’m still skeptical. I mean this is Christmas, and I’ve never met your family before. I’m just worried that I’ll feel left out.”

“Lexi, I’d never let that happen.” Lexi smiled. “Yeah, I know. Well since we’re on the subject of your family, should I call your parents Karen and Roy or Mister and Mrs. Chasez?”

“Hmm…well I think they’ll want you to call they Karen and Roy.”

“Ok, this is what I’ll do. At first I’ll call them Mr. and Mrs. Chasez, but then if they ask me to call them Karen and Roy, I’ll call them Karen and Roy.”

JC chuckled at her language. “Sounds good.”

“Ok, your sister is Heather and your brother’s Talyor?”

“Tyler.”

“Right. God, I’m getting so nervous. In a few hours I’m gonna be shaking hands with your parents. Who would have thought that we’d get this far, huh?”

“Whadaya mean?”

“Well, when you met me in August, did you honestly think that we’d end up being like best friends? I personally thought that we'd strictly have a producer/musician relationship.”

“Yeah, I guess your right,” JC smiled.

Lexi smiled back at him and took out her DISC Man and her CDs. As JC went back to reading his book he thought, “God, I wish we were more than just friends, Lexi. God do I wish.
