Saturday morning, Lexi woke up feeling crappy. She took a shower, and afterwards she felt better. She dreded the fact that she had to go to the studio again that day, but she could lose herself in music, and that’s what she wanted to do.
Against Richard’s wishes, Lexi went into the studio four days in a row. By the fifth day it was Wednesday, and Richard finally put his foot down.
“Look, Lexi, I know you want to get this album done, but tiring out your voice isn’t going to help any of us. I want you to take the rest of the week off, and the producers agree with me.”
“Rich, I’m fine…”
“No agruments, young lady. I don’t want to see you until Monday afternoon.”
“But, Richcard…”
“Buh-bye!”
Lexi took off her earphones, gave Richard a sarcastic dirty look and a hug, and walked out with JC. It was now habit that they would go to Lone Star for lunch, so when they got there JC finally asked, “What’s wrong, Lexi?”
“Nothing, Josh. I’m just tired…”
“Lexi, I know you better than that. Spit it out.”
“Matt and I broke up.”
Josh looked at her for a moment in shock and almost disbelief. He didn't think that she'd acutally spit it out.
“When?” he asked hesitantly.
“Last Friday after that party.”
“Friday? Lexi, that was almost a week ago! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“I don’t know, Josh. It’s just that…”
“What is it, Lexi.”
“I didn’t want to bother you with the details…”
“Bother me? Lexi, you’re my friend, and nothing you could do could ever bother me. Now I’m all ears.” Lexi told Josh the entire story of her and Matt’s break up, and even all the stuff that had happened over the last few months.
“Jesus. That bastard,” was all JC could say when she was finally done.
“Yeah, but it’s over now.”
“I know this is a stupid question, but are you ok?”
“Actually, yeah. Ya know I fell out of love with him months ago. I don’t feel heartbreak…only pity and regret that I didn't do it sooner. I wasted a lot of time.”
“God, this could be a movie of the week,” Josh joked.
Lexi laughed lightly, and JC could tell that it was time to change subjects.
“So, do you remember that melody you hummed for me a while ago?”
Lexi thought for a second then said, “Yeah, right. What about it?”
“Well, I kinda made a song out of it.”
“You made a song out of it? Only you could take a two measure melody and turn it into an entire song. I hate people like you,” Lexi said smiling.
“Yeah, well it’s not done yet, and I want you to help me finish it. I think it would make a great finishing touch for your CD.”
Lexi smiled and was touched by the sentiment. JC continued.
“Can you come over my place tomorrow to work on it? Around…seven?”
“Sure. It’s a date.”
