Chapter 1

Lexi smiled politely and shook hands as she was escorted around the large hall. She wasn’t sure who she was being introduced to, but she was very aware that whoever they were, they were important. For the first 30 minutes of this gala she was very responsive, but now she was on autopilot. Shake hands, say very nice to meet you, smile, walk on to the next group of producers, directors, or whatever.

Don’t take this the wrong way. Lexi was very happy to be in this situation. You see, she was signed to a record deal a couple months prior, and was beginging to record her album. Alexis Morrow had been singing since she was 10 years old, and ever since then she’s wanted to be a “famous singer,” and she was finally on her way there. This was one of parties that her record company threw to introduce new talent and circulate old talent.

“Is everything alright, Lexi,” Richard (Lexi’s manager) asked.

“Oh, yeah,” Lexi responded smiling. “This is just all so over whelming! I still find it hard to believe that this is all happening.”

“Well believe it, kido. You deserve it.”

Richard had been with Lexi from the beginging…well kind of. For one of her friend’s birthdays, they all went to a kareoke bar on Church Street. Lexi sang “Honey” by Mariah Carey, and Richard was blown away. He was drawn to her 5’ 8” frame, brown shoulder length hair, and brown eyes, and he loved that she wasn’t the typical blonde haired, blue eyed singer that Orlando had come to know. He approached her and asked her if she sang professionally. Lexi said she did and eventually they got together so he could listen to some of her demo tapes. He immediately contacted Arista Records to set up an appointment, and within 2 weeks she was signing papers to start her first album.

Lexi chuckled at Richard as they moved on to the next group of people.

“Now, this guy with his back facing you is probably going to be one of the producers on your CD. I told you about him before. So behave,” Richard said jokingly.

“I’ll try my best,” Lexi responded laughing.

“Excuse me, gentlemen,” Richard said.

“Richard! Nice to see you again!” a fat man with a cigar bellowed.

“You too, Ben. I see that diet’s starting to work!” Richard lied (he did this very well).

“Yeah, can you tell?”

The group of men started to laugh as Lexi stood there and smiled politely.

“And who is this beautiful young lady?” Ben said interrupting the laughter.

“This is Alexis Morrow, one of Arista’s new artists,” said Richard.

Lexi procceeded to shake the men’s hands. When she got to the last hand, Richard began to talk again.

“Lexi, this is JC Chasez. He is the producer I was telling you about.”

Obviously Lexi ahd heard of *NSYNC before. She did live in Orlando, but she didn’t really know their names. However, the minute she saw JC Chasez’s face she knew who he was.

“Oh, it’s very nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about your work.”

“All good I hope,” JC responded.

“Of course!” Lexi chuckled.

“Well, if you’ll excuse us gentlemen, we have some more meet and greets to do,” Richard said shaking hands.

“It was a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Chasez,” Lexi said.

“The pleasure was mine. I look forward to working with you on your CD, and please…call me JC.”

“Ok,” Lexi said slowly walking away. “Next time I’ll be sure to.”
