~*Chapter 13*~

.....Ashley motioned for Jacob and Mike to climb up the latice. Her latice was criss crossed planks of wood about 6cm thick. It wasn't very hard. Ash opened the window and pulled himself in. The others followed. They stopped to glance at Angelina's yellow room. "Exactly like it was in Redding", Ashley whispered. He looked at a picture on her dresser. It was of him and Angie a few months earlier. He looked for a long time at her smiling face. She was really happy back then. She was sometimes here too, but her laughter was a little too loud, her smiles a little too bright. She was constantly looking at him with a sad smile. He wanted to help her. Then Jacob told him they should go find Ang and her dad. They went down the stairs. Ashley saw his old chair - a red recliner he always sat in. Her house was basically the same - just like her room. Then they saw her and her dad arguing about her mother. "She was cheap! She didn't love you - she doesn't love you!" "Dad you are wrong! That is why we left you! You haven't changed - you never will. I love you dad - but you chose your drinking over me and I will never forgive you." "Why you little brat! You are turning into your mother - a greedy little nothing!" He started towards Angelina. She wouldn't back down. The three guys watched silently, admiring her courage and hoping he wouldn't do anything drastic. "Dad, leave." "Don't take that tone with me, Angelina Waters!" "Get out of my house. Now." 'Oh God, what if he doesn't leave? What if he hurts me again? He always used to! And what if - what if...' Angelina thought frantically. She was terrified, despite what it looked like. She knew her dad was very rash when he was drunk, and there was no telling what he'd do. "Dad, leave." "And if I don't?" He said loudly. "I will have to help you leave. And if I can't, I'll get my friends to, they live about 100 yards away, and they'd hear if I called them." "Your friends eh? You never did have many friends. Only that Ashley Angel. I remember you used to go on forever about how great he was, how cute he was, how sweet he was. God was that kid annoying. And then that cute girl - Shelli, was it?" Jacob and Mike could see Ashley tense up with anger. Angie's dad was now right in her face, and she was visibly shaking. She started to do the hardest thing of her life.
