Chapter 21

The next day after a ‘lovely’ day of school which was full or fights, tests, and people who you’d really like to hurt, all I wanted to do was go home a just zone out in front of the TV, but of course I never get what I want, now do I?

As soon as I walked in the door I noticed that there were 3 messages on the machine. One was Lisa, which explains where Bobby was. Another was my sister Melanie. It was for mom, I guess she forgot that’s she still not back. Finally, I played the last message, it was Mrs. Hanson. She said that after doing the wash she found a few of my shirts and a pair of jeans, and wanted me to stop by and pick them up. There went my ‘stress-free’ evening!

Zac answered the door when I knocked.

“What are you doing here?” he asked giving me one of his looks.

“Your mother told me that she found some of my clothes and wanted me to stop by and get them.”

“Well, she had to run to the store, and I don’t know where they are.”

“Okay, I can come back later.” I said turning my back to him. I expected to hear the door slam shut, but it didn’t.

“You can come in and wait.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I said facing him.

“No, it’s alright. Come in.”

Giving in to his cute face, I walked into the Hanson house for what I thought the last time. Everything looked the same, but it felt different in there, it was colder. I also noticed that no one else was around.

“Where is everyone.”

“You want to know where Isaac and Taylor are, don’t you?”

“No, your other siblings too.”

“Well, they’re with my mom, and the other too are mopping around the house.”

“What’s wrong with them?” I asked a little concerned.

“You” he stated bluntly.

“Thanks a lot Zac. I’m still not sure what happened.”

“Too bad. I’m going to get a drink. Don’t go anywhere.” He said walking into the kitchen.

I took a seat on the lounge chair and rocked back and forth. I really didn’t want to be there and it was clear that Zac didn’t want me there either, but why did he let me in the house. Something wasn’t right.

I finally got sick of just sitting there, so I decided to go into my old room. It was just a short walk down the hallway, but it seemed like forever to get there. The door was slightly open so I stayed in the hall and looked in. Inside was Isaac sitting on the bed holding something, but I couldn’t tell what it was.

“Haley, where did you go?” called Zac who was back in the living room.

The sound of Zac’s voice startled both Isaac and me, and he immediately looked up to see me standing there. As soon as that happened I turned around and quickly walked back into the living room with Zac.
