"What are you doing here?!"
"We got a week off for Thanksgiving, and I thought I'd take a little trip to see my best friend! I figured you'd be home to see your parents, but I called and they said you couldn't get time off."
Aubrey shook her head angrily, obviously upset to not be with her parents for the holidays.
Nearly 3 years had gone by since they'd graduated from high school. Aubrey had moved to L.A. to get away from all the problems at home.
"So how's college life treating you?" Aubrey said, handing Jessica a soda, and sitting down next to her on the couch.
"Pretty good," she answered quickly, then added "it's really stressful though."
Aubrey nodded, "I know how you feel. What about you and Joey, you still together?"
"Yep, 2 1/2 years now. Look what he gave me for my birthday!" Jessica answered, holding her hand out to Aubrey. Aubrey looked down to see a beautiful diamond ring on her finger.
"It's not a..." she began, but Jessica interrupted.
"OH, NO! It's just a promise ring." she said, giggling.
"Oh. Well it's gorgeous." Aubrey exclaimed, barely able to take her eyes off of the jewel.
"Thanks." Jessica said, smiling, then became more somber.
"Um, Aubrey, I saw Justin the other day."
Aubrey looked up, interest showing in her green eyes briefly. She quickly fought it off, and tried to look disinterested.
"Really? How's he doing?" she questioned casually.
"Good. He looks pretty good. But.....he talked to Joey. And I guess he asked about you alot."
Anger flashed through Aubrey's eyes. "Why does he care?"
Jessica answered sympathetically, "Aubrey, I think he still loves you. He was young then, and he was scared to admit it."
"I don't care Jess. He should never have hurt me like that. Obviously he didn't care about me nearly as much as I care abou....CARED, about him."
Aubrey looked down, ashamed that she'd just given away her secret. That she still cared about Justin.
"Where's Ryan?" Jessica asked, eager to change the subject.
Aubrey smiled proudly at the mention of her son. Her and JUSTIN's son.
"He's sleeping, he always takes a nap after lunchtime."
Jessica stood up, and followed Aubrey down the hall, and into the bedroom. Stepping inside, she looked down at the beautiful little boy sleeping peacefully. He's gorgeous, she breathed, softly stroking his little blonde curls.
"Yeah," Aubrey started, "I have to admit he looks just like Justin. I just wish he could meet his dad."
