Chapter 12

11 Months Later: (Mid December)

Leslie and JC ad started talking a few months earlier. They weren’t friends, but they weren’t enemies either. The group of friends decided to take a trip to Las Vegas before Christmas. So, at the present time it’s two days before they are scheduled to go back home, and they are all at a casino/bar.

“What would you all like to drink tonight?” The waiter asked the friends, who were seated in a semi-circle booth.

“Virgin lava flow please.” Leslie ordered.

“Raspberry daiquiri.” Nicole chimed in.

“Virgin also?”

“No.” She answered the waiter.

“And four regular margaritas and one virgin one.” JC ordered for himself and the guys.

Five minutes later their drinks arrived and they continued on with their conversation.

This drink tastes funny. JC and Leslie thought around the same time. Oh well.

Six Drinks and 3 and A Half Hours Later

“Hey Leslie. I’m gonna go back to the hotel.” JC stated stumbling out of the booth.

“Wait. I’ll go with you, you’re drunk. You shouldn’t be alone.” Leslie followed behind him.

The others were all dancing so they didn't see them leave.

3 Days Later

Leslie and Nicole were driving back from the airport. It was now only four days away from Christmas. The radio was on, and the girls were silent as a familiar tune began to play. The first words to Mariah Carey’s “Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)” filled the air. Leslie listened closely to the lyrics she knew so well. Her eyes began to well up with tears as the realization sunk in. She had missed JC so much, and they had gotten along so well over the vacation. But she could never share her feelings with him, because she knew he no longer felt the same way.

“Hey, Lez, you never told us what happened to you and JC the other night. You guys left and we didn’t see you again ‘til the next morning.” Nicole inquired as they rode up to their penthouse apartment.

“The sad thing is… I honestly don’t remember. I guess I was too drunk. As a matter of fact… I know I was too drunk. I swear I’m going to sue that casino! I ordered virgin drinks.”

“Oh, well. You’re fine now. It’s not like anything happened to you.”

1 Month Later

“Leslie, what’s this?” Nicole asked, handing her the large envelope.

“I have no clue. It’s from Vegas.”

“Well open it.”

“Ok. Ok.”

Leslie opened the envelope and pulled out its contents. While reading it her eyes widened.

“What? What’s it say?” Nicole asked impatiently.

Wordlessly Leslie handed the papers to her best friend.

“What? When did you get married? And to who?”

“JC? Oh my gosh.” She said slowly.

“I know. How am I going to tell him? He doesn’t remember anything from that night either.”

“Just tell him. I mean he can’t not know he’s your husband. He’ll understand.”

Leslie nodded while trying to contain her tears. After gathering herself she called JC and asked him to come over immediately.

“I’ll see you later.” Nicole said as she ran out the door to go see Lance.

Five minutes later JC showed up, just as he had promised on the phone.

Riding up the elevator to the penthouse, he burst through the door, which had been unlocked. “What is it Lez? What’s so important? It sounded urgent! Are you okay? Is something wrong” The questions flew from his mouth. Cleary he had been worried.

“I’m fine. Just have a seat JC, and calm down.” Leslie said rationally.

“Why’d you need to see me?”

“Josh, do you remember anything, anything at all from that night in Vegas?”

“Not a thing. Wait, you called me Josh. You haven’t called me Josh since last time you were mad at me or something was wrong. What’s wrong?”

“Maybe this will help your memory.” She handed him the papers.

“Oh my… you… me… we got married?”

“Apparently.”

“We can’t stay married. We’ll have to get an annulment.”

“I know.”

“I can call my lawyer, and he can be here in an hour, if you want to talk to him about this.”

“Okay.”

About an hour later JC’s lawyer was there and trying to get all the details.

“Alright. So if I understand you right. You two accidentally got drunk, and then got married, and you didn’t know it ‘til now?”

“That’s basically it.”

“And it’s been a little over a month now?”

“Yes.”

“Well, you can get an annulment as long as you two have not engaged in sexual intercourse. You haven’t right?”

“Oh believe me.” JC reassured him. “We certainly did not sleep together.”

“Alright then. I’ll have the papers to you in a week.”

“Thanks. See you then Jerry.”

A few minutes later, after Jerry had left, Leslie spoke up. “Maybe I should take a pregnancy test just in case, because neither of us know what happened that night. We didn't even know we got married.”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea.”

“Phew. That’s a relief.” Leslie stated twenty minutes later.

“Tell me about it.”

“Do you have any idea what being pregnant would do to my career?”

“You could always model maternity clothes instead of lingerie.” JC laughed.

“That’s not even close to being funny.” She laughed with him.

“I gotta go. I’m going out with the guys tonight.”

“Okay.”

They walked to the front door.

“Hey, JC.”

“Yeah?”

She hugged him. Electricity pulsed through her as his arms encircled her too. They stood like that for what seemed to be eternity, but was actually only a few seconds.

“Thanks for being here for me Josh.”

“I am part of this whole marriage thing too, ya know?”

“You know what I mean.”

“I’ll always be here for you.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

Within the next few days Leslie began to feel sick, so she decided to go see the doctor before her afternoon photo shoot.

“Is there any way you could be pregnant?” The doctor asked Leslie.

“No. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative.”

“Well, those test aren’t always accurate. So I’d like to run a test here.”

“Ok.”

“Well Leslie,” Her doctor said entering the room about a half hour later, “you are in fact pregnant.”

“No. I can’t be. Then we can’t get the annulment and what about my career?”

“I’m sorry.”

“Thanks. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Leslie walked out of the doctor’s office and stepped into the busy streets of downtown Orlando. She didn’t see the car coming until it was too late...
