Rachel held on to her seat and to Nick's hand and closed her eyes, awaiting the judges answer. The judge started talking about some things but he didn't just say what the verdict was.
*OHH Come on!* Rachel thought, shifting uncomfortably on her seat. Nick looked at her and nodded in response, clearly sensing what was wrong with her.
"Alexander James McLean, is considered innocent because of lack of sufficient proof..." the judge said, pausing to look at AJ and smiling warmly at him. He kept talking, finishing the "sentencing" process while Rachel grinned at AJ.
His face changed completely. Happiness was erupting from his eyes. On the other hand, Patricia sat on her seat with a straight look, figuring out whatever she was going to do or plan next. Rachel and Nick were seemingly happy but Rachel was still debating what she was going to say to Nick about the little scene that she had with AJ.
About an hour later, while AJ picked up all of his things, Rachel and Nick sat down and talked for a while. Not that it was a great conversation either, because Rachel was still feeling uncomfortable around him. Seeing that Rachel didn't say a word, Nick decided to start a conversation.
"I'm so happy that AJ is out" Nick grinned happily.
" I would have felt like shit if he was sentenced"
Rachel nodded nonchalantly. "I know" she mumbled, clearly distracted by something else.
Nick took her hand and caressed it softly. "Is something wrong?"
Her brow furrowed . "Not really" she replied, smiling softly.
"If you had something to tell me, you would tell me, right?" Nick asked her, looking straight into her green eyes.
"Of course" she answered a little bit too quickly.
Nick noticed that something was definitely wrong but decided not to push her to tell him anything. He believed that she would talk to her at the right moment.
Nick nodded and patted her thigh. "Okay sweetie". He leaned down and kissed her forehead and then began stroking her hair. "I love you"
"Me too Nick... me too" she said, looking down to the floor.
Nick pulled her close to him without saying a word and they stayed like that, in silence, until AJ came out with a huge grin spread across his face. Nick was the first one who stood up, bringing Rachel with him.
"I'm free" he said, putting the suitcases, where all the clothes that Nick and Rachel brought him were. (A/N - Remember that nobody else knew about the jail thing... only them)
"Come on dude, let's get the hell out of here" Nick grinned, taking Rachel's hand and leading her to the door which caused a certain amount of jealousy on AJ's part.
Just when they were going out from jail....
"Nick, stop" Rachel said, rubbing her temples desperately.
"Is something wrong?" Nick asked cautiously.
"My head... my head is about to explode" she replied, closing her eyes.
Nick pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. Then, he looked at AJ with a frightened look on his face.
"Shit" Rachel mumbled softly.
All sorts of flashbacks were running through Rachel's head.
Flashback starts...
"Hi... my name is Nick..."
"Hey, Rachel" she said seriously.
"You don't like me, do you?"
"Nope, I like your friend" Rachel said softly, looking at AJ and smiling at him.
Nick smirked and called AJ.
Flashback ends...
"OH God..." Rachel mumbled again, knowing now that the first person she really liked out of the two of them was AJ. Now, how was she supposed to tell Nick about everything that happened? She still didn't know... she had to be alone to decide how to approach him about such a serious manner.
