While Nick went to his mom's house. Rachel decided to leave the kids with Brian for a while and go visit AJ. She had been doing that ever since he was brought there. During the time that AJ had been in jail, he and Rachel developed a great friendship. They talked about every single thing that came to mind, something that she still couldn't do openly with Nick for no reason in particular. She just felt that she could trust AJ with certain things.
"J, the trial is tomorrow" Rachel reminded, patting his hand reassuringly. AJ looked at her and smiled nervously.
"Everything is going to be fine" she smiled.
"You never know"
"Oh please, don't get all pessimist on me now" Rachel said as he winked to him.
After a few minutes of comfortable silence, AJ spoke.
"Thank you" he whispered.
Rachel looked straight into his eyes. She could feel his breath and his whole-hearted honesty. Her heart was racing. Right now, she felt that she could see a whole different side to AJ. She didn't see the hard, crazy and sometimes serious image that Nick told her AJ had. She could see an overall great guy who could make her happy.
At that time, AJ leaned over kissing Rachel lightly on the lips. At first, the kiss was sweet and simple but then, it got a little passionate. Suddenly, they found themselves hungry for each other, savoring every single moment. After minutes of kissing, Rachel pulled away and looked at him.
"We were definitely not supposed to be doing that" AJ chuckled. "I'm sorry... I know"
"Please AJ, don't tell Nick about it" Rachel pleaded, fearing what Nick was going to say.
"I won't... don't worry"
Rachel nodded. "I-I gotta go"
"AJ nodded back. "Okay... have a great day.. and um... I'm sorry about that"
"It's okay... it was partly my fault too"
"Alright then... are you coming to the trial tomorrow?"
Rachel smiled. "Of course"
"I'll see you tomorrow then"
"Okay" was all Rachel said, giving AJ a quick peck on the cheek and going out.
*What did I just do?* Rachel thought going out of the police station.
That day, she tried her best to not let Nick know about what happened between her and AJ. She wanted the trial to go on without any more problems. She swore to herself that she was going to tell him after the trial, no matter what.
The day of the trial was an ordinary day, except of course for AJ, who was going to be either sentenced or put out in liberty. The trial was going smoothly. Rachel and Nick were also there and Nick was one of the witnesses who was testifying. AJ was extremely calm... too calm. Rachel was hoping the best for everyone. She knew that things would work themselves out but she was also very scared, due to the fact that AJ could be facing a long time in prison since he "accepted" what he did. Patricia was also there, making herself look like the victim. She had all of her family there testifying for her, and they were supporting her, speculating about her time in rehab due to the "attempt of murder" provoked by AJ.
After everyone testified, the judge took a break to let the jury decide the final verdict. A couple of minutes later, everyone entered the courtroom again. Just before the verdict was announced AJ looked back at Rachel and mouthed a thank you, making Rachel tear up a little and grasp Nick's hand tighter.
"After listening to all the witnesses of the event" the judge started (A/N I don't know what they actually say in here!) "the jury has come to a decision... Mr. AJ McLean, please rise from your seat"
With a solemn look on his face, AJ rose from his seat facing the judge, waiting for the verdict to be said.
