I just stood there, hugging him back not knowing exactly what to do or say, so I didn’t say anything until he was ready to tell me what was bothering him. After about five minutes he slowly loosened his grip and looked me straight in the eye. I looked back into his soft blue eyes and I just wanted to melt into a wet gooey puddle on the floor.
"My life is ruined!" he slowly said.
Surprised at his response, I said, "What? What are you talking about?!?"
He sighed and walked inside. "I broke up with Mandy" he said. Nick had been going out with Mandy for almost a year; she was no good for him. She frequently asked him for money and I would see her quite often cruising around in Nick’s sleek dark purple Prowler. In other words, Mandy was just using Nick for his money; I knew she really didn’t love him.
"Why?" I asked Nick, secretly trying to hide my happiness.
Because..." he said, "I just got tired of her trying to run my life, plus I had a feeling she was just using me for my money and my car."
"I could have told you that!" I mumbled.
"What was that?" Nick asked.
"Um...uh...nothing!" I nervously answered.
He turned away and plopped down on the couch, "I have no idea what I’m going to do!" he said, putting his head in his hands.
"What do you mean," I asked. "Forget Mandy! Go on with your life! She wasn’t everything!"
"I know that," he said. "But I did love her..."
"You did love her, but now you don’t so forget about her now; she’s just a bad memory."
"I guess you’re right"
"Of course I’m right"
He smiled that wonderful smile of his that showed off his pearly whites, "Thanks Jen...
I owe you one!" he said as he got up to hug me.
I hugged him back, inhaling his crisp Cool Water cologne, "Yeah, you do!" I said.
He smiled again, "So are you doing anything tonight?" he asked.
"Um...no, why?" I asked.
He shrugged, "I don’t know, I was just wondering if you’d want to go watch a movie....you know, like old times."
"Sure, sounds fun" I said.
"Great" he replied as he took my hand. I felt the warmth of his touch and it made me cringe with happiness, although I tried hard not to show it. He smiled and opened the door, "What are you doing here?!?!" he exclaimed.
