Chapter 4 & Epilogue

"Hey, Nick!" Brian greeted as Nick walked into the conference room of The Firm for the scheduled meeting.

"Hey, Bri...wassup?"

"Not much. Where did you go in such a hurry last night?"

"I wanted to get home...and then I spent the night at Mel's. Um...I'd rather not talk about that now, but wanna grab some lunch later?"

"Sounds good..." Brian replied, taking note of his friend's blush.

Nick and Brian carried their trays from the counter to a booth near the windows of the local McDonald's. "So, what happened last night? Did you talk to her?" Brian asked impatiently.

"We talked...and went to bed as usual."

"So everything's cool? You two just slept like usual?"

"Until this morning..."

"Dude...what happened?"

"Um...well, I took a shower this morning...and then I went out to her room and she woke up and we talked a little more and then..." he paused and looked down at his fries.

"What? She got mad? She threw you out? What?!"

"We made love..." Nick whispered.

"Congrats man!!!"

"Thanks..." Nick quietly replied.

"Dude, what's wrong?"

"Well, I don't know why we did. Would it still have happened if that conversation had never taken place?"

"You need to ask her that..."

"I know....but it was so wonderful..."

Brian grinned and they finished the meal.

"Mel?" Nick called as he walked into her house that afternoon.

"Nickers?" her voice echoed from upstairs as running footsteps grew close. She bounded down the stairs and into his arms, burying her face in his chest. "Hi...I missed you! I wanted to talk..."

"I wanted to talk to you too...I love you, Mel. You know that right?"

"I love you too. Now, about this morning...You don't regret anything do you? Because..."

"I just wanted to know if you only did it because we talked about it?"

"No...I love you Nickers..."

"I love you too..." he said with a small smile before gently kissing her lips. "That's all I need to know..."
