Chapter 11

Nick looked at her. Cassie saw what she had done to him. All he wanted was a friend that would be there for him and help him out with his girlfriend every once in a while. She had let him down.

"Nick, I'm so sorry." Cassie started to walk towards him with tears streaming down her face. She leaned her head on his chest and listened to the beating of his heart. "I'm sorry that I'm messing things up for you. I can't help it though. I love you so much."

Nick picked her head up with his hand and they were face to face. "I'm glad you told me. But, there are so many un-answered questions that we need to work out." He began to wipe the tears off of her face with his finger.

"You mean to tell me that you have never thought of me and you as more than friends?"

"No, I have thought of us as more than friends. I won't lie to you."

Cassie took Nick by surprise by kissing him. Nick didn't pull back. He returned the kiss. No doubt that both of them was enjoying it. The kiss lasted for a while until, his cell phone rang.

"Hello?" Nick answered. It was Melissa on the phone. "Yeah, I made the reservations," he said into the phone. "Okay. . . yeah. . . I'll pick you up then. . . bye." He cut off his cell phone and turned his back to Cassie.

"What do you want me to do, Cass?" he asked.

"Do what you wanna do. You say that you care about Melissa. So, I don't have a chance."

"What if I told you that you did."

"Let's get this straight. I don't want to be part of some game while you decide what you want."

"Cassie, I can't help it. We've been friends for years and you just tell me you love me. What do you expect?"

"I don't expect anything. I didn't even plan on telling you," Cassie said.

"How long have you felt this way?"

"I don't know."

"We've known each other for so long," Nick said.

"Yes, we have," she replied.

"I have to have a talk with Melissa tonight. I have to break up with her. I have to sort out my feelings for the two of you and it's not fair to her if I keep carrying on like its been. I'll come back here after I have dinner with her so we can talk about all this."

"Okay." "I'll be here," she said.
