"Melissa told me that she loves me, but I'm not too sure that I love her."
"Oh. I see."
"Do you think I love her?" Nick asked.
"How am I supposed to know that?"
"I thought you just might see something that I don't."
"Well, I don't see anything." Cassie was becoming very bitter.
"What is wrong, Cassie?"
"You want to know what's wrong?"
"Yes," Nick answered.
"All of a sudden, you want to know what's wrong with me. Well, I'll tell you. I sit here day after day and listen to you tell me about you and Melissa and I give you advice all the time, but you never once stop to think about what I might be going through."
"What are you going through? Tell me, I want to know."
"I went through so much the other night at that party. You think me and Reuben were acting that way because we liked each other. No, I was trying to make you jealous and he was helping me!"
"Wait a minute. Why would you want to make me jealous."
"You see, Nick. That's the problem with opposite sex friends. Sometimes one falls in love with the other." With that, Cassie fled upstairs to her bedroom.
"Cass! Wait!" Nick ran up after her. The door to her room was shut and locked. Nick banged on the door. "Cassie! We need to talk about this." He got no reply. Silently, Nick slid down against the door and sat as he began to talk to her. Cassie was sitting on he other side of the door listening.
"Cassie, I don't know what to say. I mean, I had no clue. Maybe I should have seem some signs or something. If I missed them, I'm sorry. But, you know that you're like a sister to me. Cassie, please talk to me. I have no idea what to do now."
"Just leave!" Cassie yelled. "Leave and forget this whole thing. Be with Melissa. She's an air-head, but you can have her."
"Now this has nothing to do with her, so please don't cut her down," Nick said. "She's not an air-head."
"Yeah, and I like totally wonder what would happen if I like stuck my finger in this electric socket that's over there too!"
"I am not going to let you talk about her like that!"
"I hate you!" Cassie screamed through the door.
"Oh yeah. Who's the air-head? First you love me, then you hate me!"
"Get out! Leave! Never come back! I never want to see your face here again!"
"Fine! I'm leaving!" Nick stood up.
"And keep your air-head girlfriend away from here too!"
"No problem. She hates you anyway!" He started to turn towards the stairs.
Cassie opened the door. "Give her my number. I'll claw her eyes out!"
