"Ahhhhhhh!" Sky screamed bloody murder right into Nick's ear. As Nick rubbed his wounded body part, Brian came rushing into the bathroom.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Brian, who was quite a site with his tousled blond curls and Garfield boxers, demanded.
"A hea-hea-head" Sky mumbled before she collapsed to the floor.
"This girl is way too emotional!" Nick rolled his eyes as he lifted Sky off of the blue tile, and onto his bed.
"Why did she yell like that?" Brian asked again.
"Oh, there was some fake head in the drain. Brent was probably trying to get back at me for that prank I played on him last week," Nick explained.
"Oh, when you gave him the gum that turned his mouth black?" Brian asked.
"Yeah," Nick said as he grabbed some clothes and headed to the bathroom to change. He came out a few minutes later to find Brian telling Sky that the
head was only Nick's friend Brent playing a joke.
Sky just sat there starring at Brian as she slowly sipped the water that he had gotten her.
"Sky, get dressed, we're going out," Nick told her.
"What?" She looked at him.
"I said, we're going out."
"Okay" Sky said, obviously confused. She grabbed some clothes and went to change. Thirty minutes later she and Nick were headed towards the elevator. "So
where and why are we going?" Sky looked at Nick.
"Sky," Nick began. "You know how Brian told you about that head being a prank?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, um, I was lying to him."
"What!?" Sky stopped and stared at him.
Nick sighed, "I have no idea what's been going on these past few days, but I plan on getting to the bottom of it, without Brian's help. In fact,
without anyone's help. I have a feeling that me and you are supposed to figure this out all on our own. Maybe it's scary, and maybe I'm just being a
jerk with too much pride, but this is our situation, Sky. Nobody else's."
Sky didn't say a word, but kept walking. Finally, curiosity got the better of her. "Where are we going?"
"To the fair," Nick said matter of factly.
"The FAIR? How is that going to help us figure this out?" Sky demanded.
"It's not, and that's the point. This is our day off. We've been through a lot lately, and I really think this is just what we need. We need to act
like normal people for once, and forget about our problems until tomorrow.
Let's have some fun today, Sky. Please?" Nick shot her a puppy dog look.
"Okay, so maybe that look works now," Sky shook her head, as Nick linked his arm through her's.
The two of them jumped into Nick's car and drove for about twenty minutes to the fair Nick spoke about. Sky looked at Nick and his eyes seemed to dance like a little boy's, as he took in the scene surrounding them. There were tons of rides, including a Ferris wheel, two roller coasters, a haunted house, and a carousel. Also, on the fair grounds were games such as: a horse race, ski ball, and shoot the water in the clown's mouth. Plus, there were numerous carts filled with food, ranging from cotton candy, to fried dough, to hamburgers. Loud music blared from two gigantic speakers.
"Come on," Nick dragged Sky into the fair, where they purchased a book of tickets. "We're going on the Fire Ball first, you know that right?" Nick
nodded towards the roller coaster.
Sky looked up at the huge red monster. Huge drops, sharp and upside down turns were what greeted her eyes.
"I don't know about that.I think I'll pass," Sky said, turning away from the ride.
"What, are you kidding? Do you really think I would let you do a thing like that?" Nick grinned, as he grabbed her hand and pulled her in line for the Fire Ball.
"Nick, seriously, I'm not a big fan of roller coasters, especially ones that go upside down!"
"Well, I'm gonna change that today, right now," Nick said, as he handed a fair employee the tickets for the ride.
Sky and Nick sat down in one of the Fire Ball's cars, and waited for everyone else to get on.
Nick noticed Sky's knees were shaking and she was also tapping her foot. He put his hand on top of hers and said, "Sky, it's okay. Believe me, I would never, ever take you on this ride if I thought something would go wrong. I would never let you go on anything, or go anywhere, if I thought there was even a slight chance you would get hurt. Believe me, I care about you too
much to let anything happen to you."
With a jolt, the ride started and immediately plunged downwards. As the car spun and flipped, Sky's heart was in her throat. Everything was now even more complicated, as Sky realized that she was in love with Nick Carter.
