Nick yawned and sat up in his bed. Brian was sleeping in the other bed in the room. Sky lay in the spare cot, but she wasn't sleeping. She was crying.
Nick rolled out of bed, and walked over to the cot, sitting on the edge of it.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Everything."
Nick tilted his head to the side and asked, "Can you please be more specific?"
"More specific? How can I be more specific? Absolutely everything is wrong! Isn't that what I just said?" Sky's voice rose.
"Shhhh, Bri's still sleeping," Nick put a finger to his lips.
"Fine, I'll just shut up then."
"No, Sky, I didn't mean it like that. Please, tell me what's wrong."
"Like I said, everything is wrong. I'm in the middle of no where, scared to death, and I have no one here to comfort me. I'm completely alone, and
I'm so frightened" she choked and started to sob.
"You're not alone, your father's here isn't he? And I'm here."
"My father had to go away for business, and I don't even know you."
Nick felt a jolt of betrayal run through him when she spoke those words. "Didn't you just tell me last night that you felt so close to me? Like you've known me forever? Don't you trust me? Haven't I comforted you every
damn time you were scared or crying?" Now it was Nick's turn to be upset.
"You have but.."
"But what?"
"But I don't feel right. I always feel alone, and yet"
"Like someone's watching you every second." They stared at each other, and the uneasiness in the room was hardly bearable.
"Do you feel that way too?" Sky asked him.
Nick nodded.
"Do you," Sky swallowed. "Do you feel that way right now?"
Nick nodded again, and they stood up. He took her hand, and silently led her to the table. Nick looked under it, but no one was there. He looked under
the beds, and cot too, but still not a soul was there.
"Nick," Sky whispered. "In the bathroom," she mouthed, pointing to the slightly open door.
Nick tiptoed over to the door, and stepped through.
Scrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeechhhhhhhhhhh
Sky came running and stood behind Nick, who's attention was now completely on the shower curtain. It took all of his courage to walk up to the curtain. He stood in front of it, inhaled and pulled it open just to see the last of a head disappear down the drain.
