Six months. It had been six months since I had seen her in person. Two months since I had phoned her, and three weeks since I had written her. I was home for two months and planned to do something...let me rephrase that...anything...with Jen. We were both slightly annoyed at my schedule. On top of that, we had parted on the phone on a little less than happy terms. She had been truthful when I asked if she had been out with other guys.
"Y...Y...Yes," she said slowly, "but it was only a friend," she said, this time very fast.
My heart stopped completely. This was how all my other relationships had died. First, it was just one date with a friend. Then, it was two dates with a little more than a friend. Then before I knew it, she was sleeping with her new boyfriend and I was girlfriendless. Sometimes it hurt. But, sometimes I was too mad to be hurt. When she answered I hadn't said anything (guys: BIG mistake).
"Nicky? Nicky?" she asked.
"Jen...how could you do that to me?" I had said.
"Do what? I told you, he was just a friend..". I cut her off.
"That's what they always said. And then the next thing I knew, I was history," I said.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly. So, quietly I could barely hear her. I knew I had really hurt her feelings.
"I'm sorry I got mad. I gotta go. I love you. Good-night," I said and had hung up.
That was my biggest mistake. I haven't talked to her for two months now. It had definitely taken it's tole on me. Now, she was coming down to Florida to stay with me for a month. It was the first time that I had been nervous at seeing my own girlfriend. It took me two hours to get to sleep last night.
"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" The alarm clock said 8:00 a.m.. I hit it with my arm and buried my face in my pillow and attempted to go back to sleep.
'Nicky you can't go back to sleep. You have to see Jen today. But do you want to...What are you saying? Of course you wanna see her. She's your girlfriend. She's Jennifer. The girl you've fantasized about for the past seven months. Get up! Okay Nick, you're talking to yourself. Stop!,' I thought.
I climbed out of bed and into the shower. When I got out, my mom asked me if I wanted breakfast. Breakfast? Whatever. Like I could possibly eat. In fact my stomach churned at the thought.
"Look at that Nicky. Now you've gotten yourself sick thinking about her. Stop talking to yourself Nicky," I said to myself. I was supposed to pick her up at the Tampa International Airport at 1:00. It was only 11:00, so I decided to play N64. Aaron was over in Europe. Now that I think about it, our house was pretty empty. Dad had gone w/ Aaron and for like the first time in her teenage life, B.J. had persuaded Mom to let her go with them. So that takes down three people. Who's left? Mom, Angel, Leslie, and me. Now how can I get them out of..."
"KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!" someone banged on the bedroom door.
"Come in," I said, slightly annoyed. It was Leslie.
"What do you want Les?" I asked sighing.
"Geez. I would be in a better mood if I were you. Jen's coming today right?" she said sitting on Aaron's bed.
"Yes, Leslie," I replied.
"Well if you're going to be mean about it I won't tell you," she said and got up to leave.
"Wait! Wait! Tell me what? What is it Leslie?" I was practically yelling at her now.
"Well, I overheard B.J. talking to Jen on the phone the night before B.J. left for Europe," she said.
"Yeah, yeah! What else?" I asked impatiently.
"Well I think she has a boyfriend Nick," Leslie said simply. She just stood there looking at me. I felt my heart drop to the floor.
"Well, she does. I'm her boyfriend," I said and slammed the door in her face.
I threw myself on my bed and suddenly realized that I had to pick her up in an hour and a half. But just as I was thinking this, another idea popped in my head. First of all, if she has a boyfriend, why is she coming down here to see me? And secondly, who is her boyfriend and what happened to me?
