“rwroom rwroom rwroom!” Gavin laughed as he made racecar noises.
Gavin ran around the kitchen table laughing and yelling. Nick was upstairs getting dressed, while Aaron was watching Gavin downstairs. Nick had the bright idea to take Gavin to the zoo, and insisted in dragging Aaron along. Aaron didn’t complain much; he loved being able to spend time with his older brother and his nephew. He loved not having to be at home, where the constant yelling and fighting went on. He wished his parents would just get divorced and let everyone else get on with their lives.
Gavin was getting dizzy; Aaron could tell by the way his eyes looked. He laughed softly as Gavin fell flat on his butt. Gavin first looked like he was going to burst into tears, but then looked at Aaron. Aaron immediately picked him up and hugged him. Gavin kept trying to grab Aaron’s fingers to chew on. He was teething bad and was chewing on anything he could get his little hands on.
Aaron carried Gavin into the living room and placed him in his walked. He scanned the movie rack for a movie to keep Gavin occupied. He grabbed the first cartoon he saw and put it in the DVD player. Gavin laughed and clapped when Finding Nemo came onto the screen. He scooted his walked towards the TV until he reached it. He placed his tiny hands on the large TV screen and smiled.
“I touch phishy! Awon!! Awon! Wook! I touch phishy!” Gavin giggled as he watched the movie.
Aaron smiled as he watched his nephew. He was so proud of Nick for taking on the responsibility of raising Gavin alone. He was a great kid. Nick had done well. Gavin kept trying to stick his fingers in his mouth to chew on. Aaron left the room and ran into the kitchen. He got one of Gavin’s teething rings out of the freezer and took it to him. He never understood why Nick kept them in the freezer, but he was sure there was a logical explanation.
Nick walked down the stairs and watched his brother interact with his son. The two most important people to him were side by side. He loved his brother, and wished he could just get custody of him and rescue him from the prison he had to call home. Nick knew what Aaron was going through living at home. He hated his mother, and had forbid her to see his son long before Gavin was born. She had tried to stop Amanda, and him from getting married. So when Amanda learned she was pregnant, he told his mother she would never know he grandson. Harsh, yes, but so was her forbidding him to marry Amanda.
Nick smiled softly as his son tried to “touch” the fish. He did that every time he watched Finding Nemo. He wanted to buy a dog, but he wasn’t sure how Gavin would adapt. He didn’t want it to scare him.
He picked Gavin up out of his walked and took him into his bedroom to change him. He thought maybe a day out at the zoo was just what the three of them needed.
