"Nick you're so rude!" Melody yelled.

"Why?"

"Because I said you are!"

"That’s not a good reason."

"Sure it is." she gave him a smile. Nick smiled back. "I gotta tell him how I feel. I've liked him for so long and he doesn’t even know." she thought.

"Hello? Anybody there?" Nick said waving his hands in front of her face.

"Huh?" She had a confused look on her face.

"Never mind."

"What?"

"Nothing…" Nick always hated it when he tried to tell his best friend something and she'd go off in la la land. It made him mad, but he still loved her. They had been best friends forever. Nick's mom and Melody's mom were best friends in high school.

"Come on Nick tell me! Please?" she said doing her little puppy dog face.

"Well it's mainly about us." Melody started to smile hoping for Nick to say that he liked her. RING!

"Damn I'll tell ya later okay?"

"Okay." Her and Nick walked to class together like they always did. When the second bell rang for class to start she sat down and started staring at Nick.

"Ah Melody. Pay attention please" Mrs. Kane said. Everyone looked at her. She turned red. Nick started to laugh.

"Oh sorry."

"No need for an apology." Melody still didn’t pay attention. She was too worried about what Nick was going to tell her this afternoon. Meanwhile Nick was off in his own land thinking about how he was going to tell Melody how he feels about her without ruining their friendship. Then he is just afraid they she isnt going to talk to him ever again.

"Class settle down." Mrs. Kane ordered. The class settled down and got back into their seats.

"Before you all leave for the day don’t forget to do your history homework and as well don’t forget to study for the test tomorrow."

"Oh man!" Joey exclaimed.

"Go and get out of here." Melody caught up with Nick.

"Why the rush?"

"I gotta get home Mel. Mom's making me baby-sit Aaron and Angel tonight." he said getting on the bus.

"Need some help?"

"Sure come over after you ask mom and dad."

"I was planning on that" She smiled.

They got off the bus 15 minutes later. Nick ran all the way home. They only lived a couple of houses down from each other. Melody walked home. When she went to open the door she heard her parents fighting again. Tears developed in her eyes. She walked back down the steps and went to Nick's house not even telling her mom when she had went. She cried all the way to his house. She rang the doorbell.

"What's wrong?" Nick asked.

"Mom and dad were fighting again as usual. I didn’t even want to deal with it Nick. So I just came here." she said walking in.

"I am sure it will be alright,: he said giving her a hug.

"Sure?"

"I promise." he kissed her forehead. She was happy that she had a friend like Nick to rely on. Sometimes she wished he could take all her problems away and make them never return.

"Thanks Nick." she smiled and whipped the tears ways.

"No prob." Aaron and Angel came running in.

"Melody!!" Aaron exclaimed giving her a big hug.

"You act like you haven't seen me in ages." she laughed.

"Well I haven't." Aaron said looking up at Melody.

"You saw me yesterday silly." Angel stood there looking sad.

"What's wrong sweetie?" she asked.

"Aaron went and threw my dolly into the dogs pen.

"Aaron Charles Carter!" Aaron ran away , because he knew he was in trouble.

"I'll go get him" Nick ran after him.

"Hey how about we go outside and get your dolly?" Angel smiled. Melody took her hand and they walked out to the dogs pen.

"Shhh… be quiet Houston you're gonna get the whole block barking." She said as she went into the pen. Melody got out of the pen.

"Here ya go."

"Thanks." Angel gave her a big hug. They walked back into the house. Nick and Aaron were wrestling on the couch.

"You two stop this right now!" she yelled. Nick stopped, but Aaron didn’t.

"Aaron?" he looked up at her.

"You better stop or else!" he shut up and ran into his bedroom.

"Sometimes I feel like I am also babysitting the both of you!"

"Sorry." Melody smirked. Angel went and ran off into her room to go play Barbie's. Nick and Melody walked to the couch.

"So what were you going to tell me earlier Nicky? You said it was about us." Nick looked nervous.

"Well the truth is that I really like you, but I don’t wanna get into a relationship plus we are such best friends. I don’t wanna ruin anything between us." Nick explained. Melody felt bad. She wanted them to be together so bad.

"Oh."

"Melody come on."

"What?"

"Are you okay? Are you never going to talk to me again? Or are you going to sit there and act stupid?" he laughed.

"I'm okay… really I am." Nick knew she wasn’t. He knows Melody that well. Nick now felt bad that they couldn’t be more than friends.

"Please don’t be mad at me." Nick whined.

"I ain't mad … just disappointed Nick."

"You understand right?"

"Yea."

"Come here." Nick pulled her in for a hug. Before the hug was even over Nick leaned in and kissed him. Melody pulled away and was now confused. "mixed feeling's" he thought.

"Why'd you do that for?" she asked.

"I don’t know. I was just caught up in the moment… I guess." she was still confused and didn’t understand. Melody got up from the couch and went into the kitchen. Nick got up as well and followed her into the kitchen. He sat there and thought "dammit why did I do that? now everything is going to be even more different than it is right now!"

"Nick I gotta go. My mom said my dad left again. I'll call you later okay?"

Nick nodded his head. She grabbed her stuff and walked out the door. He walked to the window and watched her walk across the street and down to houses to her house.
