Chapter 8

Riley reached the same parking lot she was at that same morning to pick up the small blue parakeet she found upon leaving her apartment lot.

“Ding!” went the same bell she heard that morning when she first entered. The same lady was sitting on a stool while fidgeting with a small rusty cage. “Oh you’re back earlier than expected!” the lady claimed in excitement.

“Yeah, I know I said I would be back around 5 but things were shifted. Is the bird ready?”

“Yeah, he’s having his little meal right now. Let me go get him for you!” the lady said while jumping off the stool she sat on and quickly making her way down a corridor and disappeared for a few second then re-appeared again and this time, holding the little bird inside a small, silver cage. “Just keep the wrap for 2 weeks worth and then you can take it off and he should be fine!” she instructed while giving Riley the cage that contained the bird

“How much for everything?”

“Consider it on the house! This little bird is just a little precious thing!” the lady smiled while holding her face close to the cage to toy with the bird before parting ways.

“Oh, well, uhm…thank you,” Riley said somewhat surprised. “I guess I’ll be seeing you soon!”

“Oh wait, you need some food. Here, give him small portions every morning and then the same amount before you head to bed. When his wing is fully healed, you can let him out of his cage around your apartment to let him flutter around as part of his exercise.”

“Okay, thank you very much for you help!”

“A pleasure! Bye, bye little birdy!!!”

With that, Riley walked out of the store. “I guess you’re mine now,” she looked at the little bird. “I guess I should call you…let’s see, what would be the perfect name for you? Ah I got it! Uriel! The lady at the store said you’re good luck, and we’ll see if you will actually be like an angel sent from heaven above for me!” she snickered while jumping back into her car and eventually driving away to head back home.
