Chapter 7

“Excuse me, miss?” Nick called out as Riley turned around to face the voice she heard, stopping midway just before getting inside her car. “Can…can I just talk to you for a bit?”

“What is it?” Riley squinted while bowing her head slightly to make sure the right side of her face was still covered by her hair.

Nick walked a bit closer to Riley and continued, “I just wanted to apologize back there for my friend’s uhm…rather odd behavior. He’s just…weird like that!”

Riley glanced at Nick blankly without a single word escaping her mouth.

Nick scratched his forehead nervously while letting out a small sigh. “You didn’t get fired because of us…did you?”

“Imagine me standing at the top of the highest mountain on earth, a thread away from the edge and falling out. You and your friend came, you breathe because that’s what you’re required to do to live, and I fell off the edge. Get it?”

“Uh…” Nick retorted in confusion.

Riley sighed, as she knew the guy in front of her missed her point completely. “It was neither yours or your friend’s fault I got fired. My boss is just a dickless moron anticipating for the right moment to give him more reasons to get rid of me! Sorry if I seemed a little rude back there, that wasn’t my intention if you can believe that, you can go back inside now and stop feeling guilty and enjoy your drink,” she said bluntly while continuing to step inside her car. Without looking back, she started the engine and drove off the parking space, leaving Nick speechless.

“Weird,” Nick sighed to himself as he turned his body around to go back inside the shop to continue sipping on his drink.
