“See, she would seem like those nice girls I was telling you about, minus the sarcasm of course…and the…hair over her face deal, I mean, what the hell is that?” Marc retorted while looking at Riley conversing with Ann.
“Leave her alone and just shut up!” Nick claimed while he busied himself playing with the packets of sugar placed in the middle of their table.
“Here are your orders,” Riley said as she gave Nick and Marc each of their order. “You guys need anything else?”
“Yeah, how about a smile?” Marc teased
Riley looked at Marc blatantly, “Do you think you’re a funny?” she snapped. “I mean, seriously, who the hell do you think you are coming in here acting all high and mighty as if the whole world is at…”
Not able to finish what she was about to say, a booming voice filled the air as it called out, “Riley!”
“Oh great,” she sighed while shifting her head to face Mac, whom signalled her to come to his office. Without looking back at both Nick and Marc, she walked to where her boss was a standing, arm placed on both side of his big-bellied waist.
After about 2 minutes, she turned around and walked back to the counter and handed Ann her notepad.
“What happened?” Ann asked
“He fired me,” Riley said silently.
“What? That…”
“Ann, it’s okay. I saw it coming anyway. Well, I guess I’ll just see ya!” Riley extorted while making her way out of the shop.
“I’ll call you tonight!” Ann called back then quickly shifting her eyes to where Marc and Nick were seated: perhaps the two people responsible for Riley getting fired.
Nick managed to snag an eye-to-eye connection with Ann and quickly stood up and ran out of the coffee shop.
