Nick flopped his tired body on his king-sized bed and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, trying to absorb his encounter with the woman he once loved and revolved his entire life around with. He shifted his head to his right and saw a picture of Riley he had placed inside a beautiful frame, which peacefully sat on his bedside table. He reached his arm for it as he sat up, leaning his back against the wall of the bed and stared at Riley’s picture.
We shared so many things
We’d laugh, we’d cry, we’d sing
Forever thought I had you
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
A single tear left Nick’s eyes as he let a finger run down the frame so that he could touch Riley’s face one more time, but he knew it wasn’t the same. He missed her; he missed the way she laughed, the way she talked, the way she loved him. He missed everything about her and he would do anything to bring her back.
Nick quickly got out from his bed and began to pace around his room as he ran a hand through his hair, messing up the style, while on the other hand, he held Riley’s framed picture. Confusion began to overtake his entirety as his heart ached from a thousand pain. With one swift turn, he found the phone at his eyesight. He quickly walked over to it and began to dial a set of familiar number; a number he never knew he would dial every again.
“Janine?” he said. “Yeah uhm…hi it’s me Nick,” he said upon realizing that it was her machine that had answered the phone. “Listen, I’ve been thinking about it and uh…yeah I’d…I’d love to go to that party you were telling me about earlier so…uh…I guess I’ll just…you know, pick you up at…8:00 maybe? Yeah, I’ll pick you up at 8 on the 24th. I’ll see you then…bye,” with that he hung the phone up and ran his hand one more time through his hair, angry at the decision he made. He looked at Riley’s picture one more time following it with a sudden throw against the wall, setting the glass into shatter to the floor.
Nick allowed his body to collapse back on his bed while burying his face on his pillows and closed his eyes, trying to shut and forget everything that has happened.
There’s nothing I want enough to do
‘Cause you taught me how to think
You gave me the strength to hold on to
I shared my feelings slowly
I put my trust in you
You help me search to find myself
Life’s a lesson that you showed me
Nobody else can console me
A special warm within
Never thought I could feel so lonely
So unexpectedly, you left me here all by myself
Now I need you here to hold me
Miss you so much
I can’t explain the burn I feel
You were my breath of life
The answers to my need
I don’t know why you left me in the rain
I pray every night
Calling out your name
Where are you now?
