Chapter 19

Nick began to fidget with his hair trying to make sure it’s at the right place then followed it by fidgeting with the tie he was wearing to give a presentable representation to his highly sophisticated mother. Riley watched his every move as they approached the front of the door of a huge manor that belonged to Nick’s parents. “Relax,” she whispered in his ear. “You’re more nervous than I am!”

“Once you meet my mom, you’ll know exactly why!” Nick said as his voice trembled in nervousness. Before reaching the final step to the front door to ring the bell, Nick pulled Riley aside. “Whatever happens tonight just remember one thing, I think you’re the most beautiful woman ever!” then followed it up with a passionate kiss on her lips.

“Your smudging up my lipstick,” Riley grimaced while feeling rather special upon hearing Nick’s words.

They held hands as they made their way up the step and rang the doorbell, and soon enough, to have been greeted a man in a uniform, clearly the house butler. “Evening Mr. Clay,” Nick greeted as they were led into the living room where Jane Carter and the rest of the Carter clan awaited.

“Nickolas, late as always!” Jane welcomed her son’s presence as she got up and gave him a small kiss on the cheek. “Well, aren’t you going to introduce us?” she reprimanded as she began to eye Riley from head to toe.

“Uh yeah…uhm…this is Riley, Riley this is my mom, and that’s my dad, Robert over there, and these are my siblings. This is Angel, Bobbie Jean, Leslie and Aaron,” he said hurriedly while ever second he continued to glance at where his mother stood trying to read the _expression on her face, yet there was none.

“Well,” Jane smiled contently, “Shall we have a seat? The cooks are still preparing the meal,” she informed as they all head to where the couches were and sat down.
