As the taxi pulled up, lance looked at the size of the building and couldn't believe that it was so small. With the incredible gambling you would believe there would be a high rate or criminals though that was just prejudging it. Lance volunteered to let Hallie out by his hand, her moving her eyes back and forth deciding on the answer. She then smiled and accepted it as she stepped out of the car. Lance paid the man as he drove away quickly, leaving the two there alone at the front hard doors.
Walking in the sighted the cell where there stood two giant men and two people cuddled together in the corner on the floor. There sat Chris holding Hollis in his arms as her head sat upon his shoulder with his warm arms wrapped around her small body. Hallie ran over there putting her face straight up to the bars though couldn't speak a word. It was unbearable for her to see her friends like that as she cringed her teeth together lightly then opening her voice with a short squeak coming through.
" Hollis...," she whispered. Lance stood still in the doorway where the policeman's desk sat, with the officer in his chair, feet plastered on top of the desk.
Hollis glanced slowly over to where Hallie was as a smile quickly came to her face. She excitedly let go from Chris's grasp, standing up face to face with her friend that she missed so much.
" Get us out," Hollis sighed as tears began to well up in her eyes.
The feeling of being released came over her, a chance for freedom from spending the night in this dark hell house. Chris kept still on the floor, feeling miserable about what he had put Hollis through. Everything was his start to begin with no matter how hard he tried to not believe it. It was his idea to come here, and if he never brought it up they would be back in North Carolina with the rest of the group enjoying his life. Now he will always look back on this memory. If Hallie should ever say that she didn't want to be with him, he would completely understand because of these two days as it would stick with her as bright as daylight the same. Hallie began to call Chris's name but he wouldn't budge. Chris turned to watch Lance as he talked to the officer, hearing the mumbling of the deep voice.
" We are completely sorry about this whole incident," Lance began as he took money straight out of his pocket as if he carried five hundred dollars with him everywhere he went.
" Okay Pete, you are free to leave," the officer bellowed as the keys around his waste clang together until he reached the bars. Lance and Hallie looked at the officer with a strange face and back at Hollis because of the strange name called.
Hallie backed away, waiting for the moment to hug her friend. The door flung open and Hollis bolted out heading straight to Hallie where the two good friends shared a special moment. It was as if they haven't seen each other in centuries. Chris got up slowly using the bars for support as he staggered out with his head drooped low. Lance came over with a smile as he gave out a slight humph of happiness (uh, okay, I can't think of what to call that) as he shook hands with Chris and then brought him in for a hug as he patted him on the back. Chris, not showing one smile yet looked spiritless, as he hung his body like it was lifeless.
" Can we leave?" Chris spitted out in an angered voice.
Everyone nodded in agreement as they walked out single filed out the door. No waves to the others in the buildings as Chris led the three of them into the empty parking lot as darkness began to fall upon them with the falling of the sun.
JC and Deanna -- Deanna POV
When I got home last night, Justin was still in the dorm room, just being with Emily. She had fallen asleep and he had stayed. I told him to go home with JC and to come back tomorrow. I knew Emily wouldn't be up for awhile so it would give him time.
At 8 in the morning Justin was knocking on the door wanting to be with Emily the minute she woke up. I decided to make my way to JC's again. Just like the day that they were fighting before.
Now, JC and I were at some restaurant downtown in Chapel Hill. It was almost 11:30 because it took me so long to get JC out of bed. I couldn't get out of my mind that Emily and Justin may be back together right now. I think JC was thinking the same thing because we were barely talking.
"So..." I started. I didn't know what to say. What was there to say?
"Do you think it worked?" he blurted after a minute or so. I nodded while sliding my hand over to JC's and locked it with mine.
"I know it worked. For Emily to actually let him drive her home meant that she was giving in to her heart." I said so sure of myself, not knowing if I believed it though. It was a big step.
"I sure hope so. I don't think I could take another day of Justin's whining."JC laughed. I smiled. Everything was starting to fall into place. It was becoming perfect.
The Ride Home -- Chris, Lance, Hollis, and Hallie
Everyone was silent on the way home in the plane. Lance and Hallie were still not talking and Chris and Hollis didn't know what to say. "How am I going to tell her?" Hollis thought. Chris was thinking the same thing because he was ignoring Lance. Finally Hollis couldn't take the silence anymore. It was better Hallie found out from her before she got it from some other source.
"Uh Hal..can we talk?" Hollis almost whispered. Hallie turned her head and nodded. Hollis had a worried look on her face and Hallie's quickly melted to the same expression.
"Sure. What's up?" Hallie replied with uncertainty in her voice. Hollis took a deep breath and looked at Chris who had turned to hear the conversation. Even Lance was tuned in. Chris nodded and slid his hand to hers, gently meeting the ring that was on her finger.
"Something happened when we were in Vegas. And it wasn't just when we got arrested. It was before it." Hollis started. Hallie looked at Hollis confused. Her gaze went from Hollis to Chris to the couple's locked hands and back to Hollis.
"What..what did you do?" Hallie squeaked. Her voice was full of worry.
"We..well.."Hollis stopped. She didn't think it was going to be this hard.
"Just tell her." a voice said which she quickly recognized as Chris's. She took another deep breath and continued.
"We um...we got hitched." Hollis rushed through her words and buried her head in Chris shoulder just as Hallie started screaming.
"You what? Hollis how could you? You promised that when we got married, you were going to be my maid of honor and I was going to be yours. What happened to that? Hollis! Uh! I can't believe you." Hallie screamed in one breath. Lance tried to calm her down.
"Hallie. Relax. Let her explain." Lance coaxed. Hallie sighed.
"We didn't plan it. It just kinda happened. We were both drunk at the time. But I thought about it and I don't regret it at all." Chris tried to help. It just made things worse. "You were drunk? Hollis!" Hallie continued shrieking. The sturdiest from the ride to Vegas came over and tapped Hallie on the shoulder.
"I don't know if you're having a bad day, but could you keep it down again?" she questioned. Hallie's cheeks burned with embarrassment, but then got angry.
"Do you want me to go in the bathroom again?" she asked sarcastically. The sturdiest huffed and walked away. Chris and Hollis looked at her weird while Lance turned his head out the window. Everyone stayed silent for the rest except for the slight murmur of conversation between Chris and Hollis.
The Dorm Room -- Deanna POV
JC and I arrived back at the dorm building and went up to see how Emily was doing. I was eager to see if the two were together or if Emily ran out crying once again and Justin sitting in his grief. I grabbed JC's hand and didn't have the patience to wait for the elevator, so I ran for the stairs, pushing the door so that it smacked against the hard cemented walls. I tried skipping two steps at a time but it ended in disaster as I can smack faced against the cold tiles. JC quickly tried to avoid me stepping with a leg on either side of me. I attempted to get up but laughs took over. JC bent over and slipped my body up as my face turned completely red though I couldn't stop laughing at my clumsiness. He placed his hands on my waist and I went up one step at a time in a slow and steady.
As we reached Emily's dorm room I stood outside with a smile on my face. I didn't hear any screaming, no crying or sobbing so something good must have happened out of this. I put my hand on the doorknob, wanting to open it slowly so I wouldn't disturb them. Twisting it slowly, then pulling it the door wouldn't open.
" Let my try," JC offered as I moved to the side.
Quietly he turned it from side to side and then pushing it in since that was the way the door went. It wouldn't budge from all the force. JC looked at me and I just shrugged my shoulders as I crossed my arms. We heard a little giggle come from the other side of the door so we knew that they were in there. JC then began to knock on the door, banging it as loudly as he could on the hard oak wood about the dry/erase Nsync board.
" That's it dude, I'm breaking the door down."
He backed up put his shoulder parallel to the door. He started charging towards the door until I heard Emily squeak out " just one second". It was too late for JC to stop as Justin opened the door and became wide eyed as he saw JC coming after him.
It all happened in slow motion as I saw Justin smirk and put his foot out. JC tried to stop but hit Justin's foot and went flying. It reminded me of the act Sailing in their concert because JC was air born for about 5 seconds. It was a short time, but it seemed like it took forever. Unlike the act though, there were "no strings attached" to JC and he came down with a smack.
As if time was suspended, it all came back with a rush of laughter. JC was laying on the floor groaning while Justin was laying on my bed, laughing his head off. We soon all joined in, even JC was laughing. Emily slowly made her way over to Justin and wrapped her hands around his neck, burying her head in his shoulder as she continued to laugh. I crawled over to JC on the floor and continued laughing. All of us kept laughing, like it was the funniest thing in the world, although it was just JC falling. When I heard Justin stop and Emily clear her throat, JC and I looked up to meet 4 sets of eyes staring at us through the open door with stern faces.
" While we have been sitting in jail and getting married, we missed all the fun," Chris exclaimed as he threw himself in the room, jumping over JC and I, landing on the empty bed. We all stared at him as if he didn't know who he was, he's been gone for so long and what was he talking about. He placed his hands behind his head and looked up at the ceiling while closing his eyes.
" What the hell??" Emily screamed out.
"Could someone please ask Hollis to explain it to them?" Hallie questioned to no one imperticular.
"Yea. Could someone explain? Wait? Why aren't you two talking?" JC asked. Chris quickly explained everything that happened in Vegas including having all his stuff still in the hotel, like his wallet. Everyone was in silence for awhile, thinking through what Chris had just said. Hallie sighed, keeping the "I'm so pissed right now" look on her face. Lance cleared his throat and looked at Justin.
"Um..Justin..could we talk for a second? In the hall?" Lance asked quietly. It was the first time since everything got messed up that Lance had talked to Justin. Justin gave a glare in his direction, while Lance looked at the floor. I watched Emily give him a nudge in his side and a demanding look. Justin quietly got up and left the room. As soon as he left, I let out a sigh of relief.
Justin and Lance -- Outside
Lance quietly closed the door and faced Justin, barely able to make eye contact with him. "It shouldn't be this way. We were like brothers." Lance thought to himself realizing that this whole mess what his fault.
"Well?" Justin's Tennessee accent rang out through the hall. Lance could tell he was still touchy about the issue. Luckily, Emily and him were back together from what he could see.
"I just wanted to say...." Lance paused and took a deep breath. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I realized today what a jerk I was and I can't believe I let my feelings for Emily get in the way of our friendship. The feeling was so strong that it took over my mind and I couldn't think of anything else." Lance paused again and saw Justin open his mouth. He quickly continued apologizing. "I know I screwed things up, but I was hoping we could just forget about the whole thing. Something happened between Hallie and me today on the plane, and I think it was something special. The feelings for Emily helped me find that. I know you might not except my apology, but I want you to know that I am completely and utterly sorry." Lance concluded. He felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders. After a couple grueling moments Justin finally spoke.
"Lance...I don't think I could stay mad at you. Before Emily came in the picture, we were so close. I miss having that. I understand the feeling you were talking about. I feel like that every time I even see Emily, let alone get close to her. When she dumped me, I thought my world was coming to an end and I put all my anger on you. I just want you to know that you weren't the reason we broke up. It wasn't Hallie kissing me or you kissing Emily. It was something buried deep inside her heart. If you guys had never tried to break us up, then I might have never known and I could have lost her forever. So in a weird kinda way, I'm glad that it happened. I thank you for that." Justin stopped.
Lance let the breath he had been holding in throughout Justin's whole speech. Lance extended his hand and Justin took it, pulling him in for a "manly" hug. When they separated, Justin heard Emily let an "awe" out of her mouth. He turned towards the door to see it wide open and everyone staring at them. Justin's serious face turned into a mischievous smile and grinned at Emily. She screamed as he came running after her and started tickling her.
"Justin...stop...come on...Justin!" Emily shrieked as everyone laughed.
The amount of people in the room was making every squeeze out as JC and I still laid on the floor, Chris on one bed, Justin and Emily on the other as the other three were standing at the doorway.
" Excuse me," Hallie said as she pressed against Lance's built body. Her head kept down while Lance looked away into the room.
" Wait, before you go I want to tell everyone to pack because we are leaving tomorrow at six in the morning. I urge everyone to get their sleep, uh hem, Justin and Emily." JC pretend to clear his throat as I slapped him in the back of the head. Hallie just nodded as she took off for her dorm room across the hall. Hollis looked bothered as she followed her.
" Hollis...," Chris hollered after her.
" I'll be right back."
"Oh and does anyone know where Joey is?" JC inquired.
"First its Chris, now it's Joey. What's happening to our group?" Justin laughed. They finally agreed to call him when they got back to the hotel, if he wasn't already there.
Hallie and Hollis's Dorm Room
"You know what Hal? I thought you would be happy for me. Being your my best friend and all. What's your problem?" Hollis screamed as soon as they reached the privacy of their dorm room. Hollis stared at Hallie as tears slowly crept out of Hallie's eyes.
"I don't know...Everything just happened so fast. And on top of everything, Lance...he..Lance.." Hallie sobbed. Hollis stepped towards her and conforted her.
"What did Lance do?" Hollis asked after a minute. All the anger from before had subsided as she was concerned for her friend.
"He..no we..we kissed. On the plane. It was an accident and I don't know if he regrets it. But..I don't regret it at all. It was what I have been waiting for."
" Wait, what are you talking about?"
" You know how before we met Nsync I have always had that crush on Justin. I loved him with all my heart and that's all I collected of their stuff. While you were gone, I just figured out that he's not what I thought he was. Nothing what I expected and we just don't match. Then there was Lance who was so caring. I feel the same things he feels and I fell for him without even knowing it."
" What does this have to do with Lance? how do you know he regrets it?" Hollis asked. She was totally lost. She had left so long ago. Way before and problems occurred. Hallie explained everything that happened between the 4 of them: Emily, Justin, Lance, and herself. Hollis listened not believing all that she missed.
"Well from what I can see, your best bet is to talk to Lance. Maybe he realized the same thing you did." Hollis persuaded. Hallie nodded and started to pack. Before she threw in a shirt, she turned to Hollis.
"Oh and Hollis?" Hollis turned her head from the door she was heading out of. She needed to go back to Chris.
"Yea?"
"Congratulations." Hallie declared. Hollis smiled and left the room.
