~!chapter twenty-six!~

JC and Justin (Outside Emily's dorm room)

JC walked out of Emily's dorm room to find Justin sitting against the wall with his head hung low and his sweaty hands being ran through his curly blond hair, hoping the dye wouldn't come out. JC stood in the hallway with his hand still on the doorknob, staring in Justin's direction as he watched Justin's head go side to side. He slowly made his way over to Justin and slid his back down the wall so he was sitting with him, having his butt make a large thunder that is vibrated the floor.

As soon as JC had fully sat down, Justin lifted his head at the sudden sound. His eyes were red like strawberries, big and 'puffy' like Jennifer Lopez's butt strollin' with her honey with salty water draped all over them. JC felt so bad for him, know that he had loved Emily and she pushed him away. There had to be a reason inside her that kept her from forgiving him. JC knew that something had happened to Emily before, but he didn't know what. Only Deanna knew and she was the key to getting them back together. The problem was he knew Deanna wouldn't tell him what happened unless Emily said it was all right and so far, Emily had been doing a pretty good job of keeping it a secret. JC extended his hand until it reached around Justin's back to the farthest shoulder. Justin had buried his head in his knees again and was sobbing quietly.

Two female students were heard walking up the stairs as JC peered in that direction. Laughs came but Justin just kept his head down and wept as the two girls passed, making conversation between the two as they glanced at JC and Justin. As they continued to walk forward their eyes didn't move. As soon as they reached past Hollis and Hallie's dorm room they drew their attention back to each other as light giggling whispered, bouncing off the walls.

JC leaned his face closer to Justin's, trying to gain his attention.

"Justin, calm down, man. She didn't totally break up with you, just said she needed some time apart." JC spoke knowing his words were only for comfort and not truth. Time apart inevitably meant they were breaking up. Although it was possible for them to be together, but Emily had to open up, it was the only way.

"JC dis is all mah fault. Why did Lance have to come over? Why did I have to fight? We were back together. Den it all went whack," Justin babbled on in a hoarse voice as his head remained lowered. Before he was able to get another unanswered question in, JC stopped him.

"Justin, I could barely hear a frickin' thang you are sayin'. Though if you are talking about Lance, you had every right to fight him. I didn't see the whole thing, but I think you were only trying to defend her. But I don't think that's why she broke up with you." As JC verbalized each word Justin lifted up his sorrow frown as his face went to confusion and then to a face that JC couldn't understand the meaning.

"What do you mean by that? Why else would she break up with me if it wasn't over the fight?" Justin questioned with confusion written all over his face.

"I mean that there's something Emily's not telling you. It's obvious that something bad happened to her or else she wouldn't be trying to hide something. And the only way your going to get her back is if you find out what happened." JC clarified as he used his hands to also speak his words.

Lance and Hallie -- Hallie's Dorm Room

As soon as the got in the room, Lance started to get mad. He went over to the bed and started punching the pillow. His lip was swelling up and Hallie was desperately trying to calm him down.

"Lance stop. Come on. This was a mistake. How could we think that we were really going to break them up? They may have not said it yet, but you can tell they love each other. I know you like her, but your just going to have to live with it. I'm sorry I dragged you into this." Hallie sobbed not knowing what had happened after they left Emily's room. Lance stopped punching the pillow and sat on the bed. He started shaking his head back and forth.

"I just don't understand how she could have kissed me and ...." Lance started to say.

"You kissed her Lance. Didn't you listen to a word she said? She said she only kissed back because she was thinking you were Justin. Why can you get that through your head? She doesn't want you. Never has, never will. I know how much it hurts too so don't try and give me some bull shit about 'you don't know how it feels'. I got the same thing done to me, except now I realize what a mistake I made." Hallie explained. She didn't want to hint that she liked him now because he would go ballistic. She would just have to let fate have a hand at this one.

"I don't.....I don't....I don't know what to do." Lance cried. He put his head in his hands. So this is what "Love Hurts" means.

Joey -- club

He didn't know any clubs around here, so he just started to walk around campus. Thinking about how isolated he was out of the group, feeling like his best friends didn't think anything of him anymore. To confront them would take a lot of guts, so Joey tried to push the thought to the back of his head. It was his vacation, something they never get and he might as well enjoy what's left of it.

He finally stumbled on Roxberry's and decided to give it a chance. The music was blasting as Joey took his chances at the nearby club he had wandered into. The line was short as he walked up to the bouncer and showed him his ID For some reason the man resembled Bear from Armageddon but he shook it off, thinking he was too tired.

As he made his way into the club his eyes fell upon all the girls dancing in the middle of the club and he smiled. Short skirts and low cut tops was all he needed to make problems go away. He decided to get himself a drink before trying his luck at getting a lady for tonight. He sat down at the bar, next to a guy in a blue shirt and black pants looking pretty lonely. He took a glance at the bartender who was dancing to the music as he juggled glasses in his hand. Oh my goodness!

" Officer Affleck?" Joey splurged out.

" Shhhhh... it's a night job thing!"

Joey gave 'officer Affleck' his order then decided turned to the guy sitting next to him to see if his problems were any worse.

"Hey, I'm Joey. Why the long face? Havin' some lady trouble?" he said trying to start a conversation. The guy looked up from his drink and nodded. "Wanna talk about it?" Joey asked.

"I guess. By the way I'm Alex." the man told Joey. At that time the bartender came back with Joey's drink. As He took a nice long gulp of it Alex started his story.

"See. I was going with this girl and I really liked her. She said she really liked me too. Well one day I caught her cheating on me. Well, after that I forgave her and swore never to do it again. So everything's going great right? Well yesterday I called her seeing if maybe we could go to a movie or something. She said she was sick so I decided to be the sweet and loving guy I am and keep her company. I went to Blockbuster and rented some movies and then to Baskin Robbins where my best friend STEVE was working. So I brought both things over to her hoping to bring a smile to her face. I had a spare key that she gave me a while ago, just in case of an emergency or something so I let myself in. I walked up to her room where I thought she would be resting when I heard the shower running and her singing... that song.... "God must have spent" I think. Then, I heard another voice with her, a soprano but still masculine and recognizable. I waited until they came out so I could give them a piece of my mind. That's when I saw her come out with a leading man behind, my best friend." Alex told Joey. Then he went back to staring at his drink.

"Awe man. I'm sorry." Joey sympathized and feeling some guilt because it was his song they were singing. He felt bad for him even though he'd only met him like 5 minutes ago.

"Yea and to make it worse I found out she'd been cheating on me with him ever since I caught her the first time." he continued. Joey and Alex talked until the club kicked them out, not only about girls, but about life in general. Joey finally had someone to talk to and felt accepted once again, like he had a best friend.

Chris and Hollis - Vegas

Hollis stood in silence from the question that was just asked. She was in state of shock as she hung there like a twig on a branch, ready to plummet to the clowned tiled carpet. Her eyes opened brightly as her chin was tilted upward, meeting Chris' eyes evenly. She backed up a few steps, letting his finger lightly drag across her smooth skin.

" Chris! What are you thinking?? I mean, look at the way I am dressed?? How could I possibly be married with hair that looks like shit... and my make up!" Hollis blustered, throwing her hands up in the air and threw her straight, thick hair.

All of a sudden she stopped in her actions as she stared into Chris' puppy dog eyes and began to fall over to her right. Chris dove to catch her as she fell softly into the cradle of his arms. She rolled her head so that her cheek was pressed firmly against his forearm as he let out a sigh of air.

" So does that mean yes?" Chris questioned in a whisper as he swept his fingers through her hair.

As Hollis was about to answer, a slot machine less than six feet away from them went off, saying congratulations in bright lights as a woman screamed " Yes! Yes!". Music played all over as people crowded around the woman, slapping her on the back as she clamped her hands together and raised them up high. Hollis and Chris looked over at the lady as they began to snicker.

" I guess that answers my question."

Chris set Hollis up straight on her two feet as he took her right hand and began to lead her up the stairs. When they reached the top, it sputtered " Chapel" across the two doors. Chris knocked his arm into both of them as the whipped open, quickly pulling Hollis threw before the drew back again, back and forth like a western saloon.

The sight was all red with paper hearts taped to the walls with the words of wedding and honeymoon plastered with it. They dashed over to a man who was standing behind a podium with a book settled in front of him. The two walked hand in hand up to the man and Chris cleared his voice to draw attention.

" May I help you?" the man asked with a deep voice like Lance.

" Yeah, my girlfriend and I would like to get married," Chris said happily as he held up the cuffed hands.

" If you didn't want to get married, then this wouldn't be the place for you," the man joked, laughing at himself as Hollis just stared at Chris. " Oh yes, it seems like no one else is scheduled for today so would you like to have it right away?"

" As soon as possible!"

" Do you have rings?"

Chris lifted an eyebrow as he stared at Hollis. She looked down at the ground is disappointment but Chris only squeezed her hand to know he cares. Hollis took her hand to herself as she opened Chris' hand up, palm down and saw the many rings that were on his fingers. She slid two of them off, keeping one steady in the palm of her sweaty hand. Then she turned Chris' hand over and placed the other in his hand. He gave a huge grin at her for the smart idea, leaning his forehead against hers.

" I promise to get you a better one," he whispered as he kissed the top of her forehead.

" Oh, I don't mind. It's just that I'm really tired and want to sleep," she said seriously, looking over to the man, rolling his eyes at the sight.

" Ready now?" the man asked not patiently, resting his elbow on the podium and his chin in his hand.

Chris nodded in agreement, taking Hollis by the hand and following the man into the church area. There was an old woman and an old man in there, sitting on the folding chairs. Hollis and Chris stood next to each other, sideways facing each other and the minister who happened to be the same man with the deep voice.

As the preacher made Hollis and Chris say their vows and slip the rings on, Chris knew that they would live happily ever after. Or would they?

Emily and Deanna - Emily's dorm room - Deanna's POV

I watched in shock as Justin left, followed by JC minutes later as Emily threw herself onto her bed. I didn't know what to do because I didn't know why she was doing this. For once in my life I was totally speechless... except when JC and I are together there isn't much talking. And as much as I told myself I didn't like Justin, I felt bad for the guy. He didn't do anything wrong. I was totally confused on why Emily had kicked him out. The only reason I could think of was her past, but what did that have to do with fighting? What was she not telling me? As I thought through possible scenarios Emily's sobbing rang throughout the bedroom. Something had to be done. I had to get them back together, like putting pieces of a puzzle together and not knowing where to start.

I sat next to her body and tried to calm her down by stroking her hair. "Em, it's okay. Please don't cry." I tried unsuccessfully to make things right. Emily lifted her head up from the bed. The sight of her eyes shocked me. They were blood shot, more red than the time we saw Armageddon for the first time and I thought then her eyes were really red, and that was something to laugh at, this isn't. But this time, her eyes were as red as blood with tears continuing to drip down her face.

"How can it be ok?" she screamed. "I just broke up with the guy of my dreams and you're telling me it's ok?

"Well, why did you break up with him if you liked him so much, Em?" I questioned her. Something wasn't adding up. She liked him, yet she broke up with him? There was something completely wrong with this picture and she looked at me as if i knew what she was talking about. I only shrugged my shoulders and waited for her reply. Emily was silent for awhile then finally spoke up.

"I was scared." Emily managed to squeak out before throwing herself back on the bed and starting to cry again.

"Scared of what? I know Justin would never hurt you. You know it too. Don't you?" I consoled. They were perfect for each other. He wouldn't hurt her, at least I didn't think he would intentionally. Emily just shook her head.

"That's what I thought before. That no one would ever hurt me. But I learned my lesson. You can never be sure of anything. I was scared and I'll always be scared and I don't want to get hurt again." Emily explained before fresh tears started down her face. I didn't know how, but I was going to get them back together.
