The lights were beaming from every direction as Hollis and Chris approached the gambling city of America. Hollis stuck her nose to the window, staring as the men above her, just a few feet away bungee off of a building. Chris on the other hand was staring out the other side at the Hard Rock Café, thinking that JC would love this place, but felt free away from everyone.
They traveled along the main strip, heading to Circus Circus. You could see the clown sign miles away as the drove up to the drop off. The grabbed their luggage from the trunk with the help of the taxi driver, paid the man, and faced the entrance. The gateway to a whole universe of fun, excitement, risk taking, and not being recognized. The two felt like they were on a honeymoon, deserting everyone that they cared for but having a fun time doing it.
With a suitcase in each hand, the two of them entered the hotel with the smell of smoke smothering their faces. Strangers walked among them, people with no place to go, families who have lost track of their kids, everything that they had no part in, and don't plan on it for a LONG time. Hollis sat down on a bench in the center of the lobby while Chris went into line to check in.
While walking the long, never ending miles to their hotel room that stood in a building four buildings away from the main building they dragged the luggage behind them as the hot sun beat down on Chris's beautiful, sparkling dreads and Hollis's shiny shoulder length hair, making them have hot heads. Using a slide to card to enter the building, the light turned green and they opened the door to the building as Hollis let out a large sigh.
" Only three floors to climb and we have to search for our room, 355," Chris informed as Hollis rolled her eyes at his comment as she lifted her sun glasses on top of her head.
Chris flung the one and only key on the dresser, laying his suitcase in the middle of the room. Hollis climbed over it in her platform sandals and draped on luggage over the other. Throwing her tired body on the king sized bed, Chris joined her placing his head next to hers, giving a light peck on her soft, smooth cheek. She rolled her eyes to Chris and saw the sparkle show back at her that squeezed a smile from her lips. Wanting to be alone together with him has been a dream of her's ever since she saw him appear on the Disney Special two years ago. The big brown eyes just reminded her of a puppy dog, and the dreads just expressed his individuality that attracted her in the first place. Knowing the inside and out, she recognized that not only is he a pop singer with good looks and money, that he is actually a sensitive guy who was seeking for the same thing she was; love.
" Now we have to walk all the way back there to get some lunch and some extra cash in our pockets," he cracked through the wave of her thoughts.
Snapping out of her daze, she blinked and saw that her dreams were coming true, and they sat right in front of her. She caressed the back of her warm hand across Chris's cheek slowly and then gave him a tap on the cheek with a light echo. She smiled as she sat herself up while Chris pressed his hand on his cheek, pretending to ache in pain.
" Oh Chris, can't you carry me?" Hollis begged as she turned her head to the window that Chris stood in front of.
He let out a large moan as he rubbed the back of his neck, " If I wanted a whiner, I would have brought Deanna with instead of you." he snickered.
" You are such a dork," she said with the emphasis on dork, turning her head and standing up, heading for the door.
" Wait, hold up!" Chris shouted as he trampled over the luggage and grabbed the doorknob behind it snapped close. He opened it widely and saw Hollis five feet down the hall. Debating on whether he should grab more money, he tossed his hand behind him, decided to just forget about it and trudged ahead to catch up.
Emily POV -- In Bathroom
Time washed up like sand on an ocean beach. My face felt warm across the hard tiles as I picked up my body slowly, balancing like a seal on my palms. My head hung low as I let in a large sniff from my stuffy - turned running nose. There was a knock on the door with a long pause of silence, not hearing a voice from the other side. I dragged my short body a couple inches across the floor and laid my hot ear on the cold, wood door. Hearing the creaks on the floor, there was a sound of more than one person in the room. Feeling of sadness filled my head at the thought of Justin might being out there. Or it could be JC, like Deanna forgot the whole time that I was in here. Not liking either of my options I pushed against the door laying my body once again, straight across the floor. Waiting for their first move, words, I watched for the sound of another knock or a whisper of an apology.
Deanna POV -- Outside the bathroom
Pacing back and forth Justin wouldn't calm down from the frustration that build inside of him. Approaching Emily is one thing, but explaining the whole incident was an extra step. I watched with my eyes rolling back and forth and the constant movement in the small room with just about 15 feet of aisle space. Chattering noises came from Justin, biting the tips of his nails and then placing himself next to me on the bed. I didn't know what to say because I have given him my advise and he was here.
Not being able to keep still, he bounced his knees up and down, glancing his baby blues at every poster of himself in the room, seeing that the boy in the picture wasn't the same one that sat there on the bed.
I was getting irritated by his delay and the tapping of his toes on the ground that I just smacked his knee. His attention was disturb and full on me.
" What are you waiting for?" I rudely implied as I stuck my hands out in front of me with the palms faced up.
" What do I say? How do I say it? What if she doesn't answer the door? What if she doesn't accept my apology? Or my story? What if she hits me again?" Justin pounded down the questions as he pointed to his eye which had a light black and blue mark.
My head was being flustered with all the questions that I was so confused. I was so annoyed listening to the Tennessee accent complain about something that was staring him in the face and could be solved within seconds.
" JUSTIN! I DON'T KNOW!" I screamed as I threw my hands in the air. I was ready to march out of there but he couldn't have two girls leave him in one day. What kind of reputation would that give the sweet, loveable, adorable Justin Timberlake who girls think are all that?? One that I would love him to have but I would feel to guilty.
I looked him in the eye and I saw his expression from the scream that I bulged out. Knowing that he was just a regular guy, a friend of mine, the love of Emily's life that she has been worshiping for the past year, and that he was scared.
Squeaks of the bathroom door suddenly entered my ear as I turned to see the weepy eyed Emily, standing there with anger in her eyes.
" What now? Attacking Deanna, trying to get a kiss from her?!" Emily screamed from the entrance.
She backed into the bathroom and slammed the door before Justin had a chance to breathe. I sat there staring at the door with my mouth dropped low, thinking about how she could ever think of that. I didn't want any place in this so I tapped Justin's knee lightly, signaling that it was time for me to jet.
" No! You can't leave me here alone! I need your support! Deanna!" Justin begged.
" I wish I had a camera to capture this moment. Justin Timberlake, the guy that I greatly despise though love to make fun of want me here with him. So long sucker!" I laughed as I headed for the door. " I'll be at the hotel room with JC if ya need me!"
"Wait......" he started to squeak at me, but I was already out the door. He just stood their with a shocked look on his face. The girl of his dreams was crying, locked in a room only 5 feet away from him and her best friend thought he was a jerk. Was he really a jerk? He just sat there confused, not knowing what to do.
Vegas -- With Chris and Hollis
Inside there was a carousel that spun slowly with the machines lined around in circles with a body attached to each handle on the slot machine. Hollis held Chris's hand as people began to barge into them, trying to run their lucky machines hoping for the luck of winning at least a dollar. Continuing to walk around, exploring the area there was a large sound of laughter and an applause of clapping from up above. There was a spiral staircase and a sign ahead saying " Games For Kids OPEN 10am - midnight". Chris gave a begging look as he used his big brown eyes and persuaded Hollis to go up there.
Games for kids, dollar games where you throw the ball at the bottles stood around the area. Where their attention was caught at the circus behind performed in the center stage. Clowns were about with trapeze artists soaring through the air. Something never seen before with their eyes, they stood in amazement as their attention was fully on the circus, holding each other's hands.
Lasting only a few minutes longer, they walked away with happy faces as they enjoyed themselves at a few horse racing games, Chris winning a small stuffed doggie for Hollis. She wrapped her arms around his neck as she gave him a kiss of thanks but now it was time for serious cash.
They went back downstairs where they spotted a couple quarter machines empty by each other. The cashed in money, getting quarters and a bucket to put it in, they sat themselves down and tried their luck.
Hours passing by like minutes, and young girls walking around in nothing but tight outfits looking like bathing suits with nylons pushing a cart so you can spend your money. Chris bought drink after drink, giving 50 dollar bills at a time knowing that his luck will come by soon.
" Hey Chris? I'm going to go hit the Keno lounging section, the stool is making my butt soar and I'm not winning," Hollis commented as she left her machine and stood beside Chris's.
Not taking his eyes away, watching the Aces and the Four's roll by, he nodded in agreement he did one of those kisses in the air and waved good bye. Hollis kissed his cheek and began to walk away without an ounce of anger. She too was addicted, she just wanted to try something new.
Scooting herself by a couple of gentlemen, she sat down, gave a dollar to the lady and was handed a little Keno sheet. The man sitting next to her looked around his 30's, not only keeping his eyes on the monitor in front of him but on Hollis's legs also.
Not knowing the guys interest, she turned to him to ask a question, " So you pick five numbers or something like that and if they match you win money?" she asked in confusion.
The man stared back at her with his green eyes and his black greased hair as he nodded in reply. Hollis smile in thank you as she went back to staring at her numbers. Picking her birthday, Chris's birthday, and important numbers that meant something to her. She passed her sheet back to the lady when she was finished and waited patiently to get it back in return.
Feeling a coldness against her leg, she looked below to see a man's hand. Feeling uncomfortable, she shifted to the other side to ignore the moment, facing the other man to her right.
" Hello, is this your first time in Vegas?" the man asked generally.
" Yeah, I'm here with my boyfriend but he's off playing those machines," Hollis replied with a sigh in her voice as the lady came back and returned her sheet.
" Well, would it be okay if I offered to get you a drink?"
" I don't see any harm in that," Hollis smiled at the kindness of the stranger.
The man stood up and walked by the many people and got to the end of the row. He sneakily shot a wink at the man sitting on the other side of Hollis before he made his departure to the bar.
