`_`CHAPTER EIGHTEEN`_`

Walking out of the room from around the corner, Vesteva gathered her long hair from out of the back of her shirt and settled it on top, slipping it behind her ears. JC eyed her as she made her way to the couch, sitting down to where Abby's feet curled up. As soon as the cushions pressed down, Abby's eyes began to flutter open, seeing nothing but blurs. Her head began to rise with her hair scattered about as she rubbed her blue eyes a couple times, viewing them into JC's direction.

With a surprised but late reaction, she saw him sitting there in his suit as he waved a little hello. Turning to her right, she saw Vesteva already dressed in the clothes she came in. Looking at her watch, it showed her that it was around 10:30 meaning it was still the same day. As she remembered what had happened earlier with Justin that night, her head fell back onto the couch as her hair masked her face. She felt so drowsy like she hadn't slept in days, then she was already being greeted by friends.

" Abby, where'd Justin go?" JC inquired, keeping him still on the mind.

" Home," she answered with her head still in the cushion. Lifting her head just slightly so that she could see over the arm rest she resumed with her answer. " I'm sorry JC, I didn't pull through with my half of the deal." Abby then dropped her head and dosed back into a light sleep.

JC's mouth dropped as Vesteva's head snapped into his direction. He couldn't believe the words that had just came from her mouth.

"What deal?" Ves inquired starting to get mad. JC slumped in his chair and hid his face in his hands. "JC...look at me...." JC lifted his head slightly. "What deal?" Opening his mouth, JC tried to talk but nothing was coming out. He just sat there, mouth wide, trying to figure out what just happened to his almost perfect evening. Vesteva stood up, tears threatening to fall from her eyes. "I can't believe you." she muttered turning for the door.

"Wait!" JC protested. "I made a deal with Abby that if I went with you to homecoming she would be nice to Justin for one night." Vesteva stood there in shock, looking from JC to Abby sleeping on the couch.

"So this whole thing was set up? Yeah, sure, you just wanted to be normal for once. Bull shit! I should have known that you are just like the rest of them." Vesteva screamed. Abby stirred on the couch and slowly opened her eyes just to see Ves run out of the room sobbing. JC jumped off his seat and ran to catch up to Vesteva for the second time that night.

"Um Lance?" Justin squeaked as Lance was lifting Audra out of the car. "What are you gonna do with her?" Lance just shrugged and continued walking into the house. He waited at the front door until Justin could get the key out of his pocket. Audra let out a slight moan as the door creaked open and they stepped into the house. The three of them made their way into the living room where they found Chris laying on the couch watching Survivor. Joey had gone upstairs to his room and immediately fell asleep.

"Chris get up." Lance ordered being careful not to wake her. Chris turned around ready to give some smart remark as to why he couldn't get up, but when he saw the girl in Lance's arms he quickly scooted off the couch. Lance lightly dropped Audra onto the couch, her jaw swelling from where her boyfriend had punched her. He crouched down next to her and gently shook her shoulder trying to make her wake up. When he had no luck, he retreated to the kitchen to grab some ice for her cheek.

Meanwhile, Justin had gone up to his room to be alone as usual. He wondered if what he said to Abby had been too harsh. He barely even knew the girl, but somehow everything that she did or said made an impact on his life. Ever since he met Abby, he found himself withdrawing from the group. No one seemed to understand the attraction or even the hatred he felt towards her. So many different feelings were flying at him, he didn't even understand it. "And I guess I never will..." Justin thought realizing that they were leaving in 2 days.

Back down stairs, Lance had gotten a towel filled with ice and timidly pressed it to Audra's cheek. As soon as the cold towel touched Audra's face, her eyes flew open. Not registering where she was, she instantly sat up. She saw two figures around her, though her vision was blurry from just waking up. Her eyes adjusted as she kept looking around the house.

"Where...where am I?" She asked to a wall, not realizing Lance was right next to her. Audra went to get off the couch, she looked down and saw Lance sitting right there. Without intending to, she let out a yelp and jumped off the couch. She ran to the kitchen, just barely missing Chris who was sprawled out on the flood, still watching his TV show.

"Wait!" Lance called after her, jumping to his feet. He found her wandering around the kitchen, probably looking for a door.

"Who are you? And why am I in your house?" Audra screamed at him, as he started to come closer to her. "Wait a sec. Aren't you Lance?" Lance nodded, not surprised that she knew who he was.

"Would you let me explain?" Audra paused, then nodded slowly. Lance took a deep breath and explained what had just happened to her. "All I saw was him hitting you, I don't know what came before that." Lance finished. He took a breath and then said, "I can't imagine why a guy would want to hit such a beautiful girl." Audra, who was looking out the window, thinking through everything, snapped her head back in Lance's direction and smiled.

"Well, Lance. Thanks for coming to my rescue. I don't know....I don't know...what would have happened if you weren't there." Audra stuttered. After a few more minutes of the two of them standing around, Lance finally suggested that they take a walk. Audra nodded and walked over to where Lance was standing. Grasping his hand, the two walked out the door.

As her sandals clicked below the ground to the speed of her pace, Vesteva didn't let tears shield her face. Her house nearly blocks away, she bit her lower lip oppressively trying to keep all her emotions in for once. With her angry force from what happened, her legs carried her as fast as they traveled through the dark, evacuated streets with the cold breeze whipping her cheeks.

The corner of the street came closer to her as her pace began to settle down. Just two more blocks her house sat though she didn't have the energy to make it. Still trying to hold in all the tears, the anger, and the hurt it was becoming impossible. Bringing her hands up to her face, she took the ends of the sleeves and wiped her eyes to dry. Hearing steps from behind her, she looked back to see that JC was running after her with the faint cry of her name. Regaining her position, she all of a sudden had an urge to start running again.

Her feet jumped and she was back to running home.

" Just hold on a second! Vesteva!" JC yelped from behind, finally having the velocity to catch up with her.

" Leave me alone! Don't you understand that!?" she shouted, continuing to run though his presence was right behind her. Placing his hand on her shoulder as their feet still carried them, Vesteva stopped in the street, inches away from the sidewalk. " Get your hand off me," she barked with anger as she turned around. Snatching his hand back, he stared her straight in the eyes. The street light showered above them, putting them in the spotlight. While a couple tears trickled down her face, the sadness wasn't what was showing. As she took a couple steps towards him, he began to step back. " I trusted you," she said with her teeth grounded, tapping him in the chest with each word.

" But you don't even know-," he tried to spit out.

" Yeah JC, what don't I know? You are the celebrity here, you must know everything." Standing there, she crossed her arms and waited for a response. JC just stood there, darting his eyes at what she had just said. Taking something completely out of the situation, he felt a little offended. Nothing progressed in his head about what to say as his lips became dry from his open mouth with no words. She didn't mean what she had said, but it felt so good to say. Ves nodded her head slowly up and down while beginning to turn away, " That's just what I thought."

Marching back to Abby's house, JC flung open the unlocked door, making it slam against the wall and bounce back, making the walls shake with fear. Without bothering to close it, he stormed over to where Abby was sitting up on the couch. She was rubbing her eyes, trying to make sense of what had just happened.

"You bitch..." JC growled under his breath. Abby's head snapped up, glancing at the TV to see Forces of Nature still playing. The three characters were in the middle of a verbal fight, which Abby assumed was about to happen here too.

"Excuse me?" Abby choked out. She met JC's angry eyes and immediately looked away.

"You heard me! What makes you think that just because you managed to piss Justin off tonight, that you can go and piss off two other people? How could you have done that? Everything was going great until-" JC screamed at Abby. She just sat there, not believing anything that was happening. It was all shooting at her so fast, and it was too much. Abby could handle Justin, but JC too? No way. Luckily she cut him off early before she was able to hear another word of blame coming from his mouth.

"Hold on a second, JC!" Abby cried, standing up. "You can't pin this all on me! You're the one that made the fucking deal!! You're the one that didn't want to go with her!! You're the one that wanted me to be nice to Justin!! It's not all my fault!!" JC slid his hands down his face and shook his head. Turning around, he grabbed his Tux coat and walked out of Abby's house and Abby's life.

Walking up to the steps of her house, Vesteva thought back on the day. With what she thought was going to be a wonderful night on watching movies with a trusted friend, ended in disaster and pain. She knew that JC wasn't the only one to blame, but Abby was too. Her only friend, she had to patch it up some how. Her anger towards her was winning over right now, added with weeping.

Opening the unlocked door, her head arose seeing her mother standing there with a phone to her ear. Shutting the door, the sound echoed through the empty hallways grabbing her mothers attention. Placing the phone down sternly, she paced over to the broken Vesteva. Lowering her head, her mother looked down at her in disappointment. Trying to speak, all that came out were sobs.

" Don't even try to explain yourself!" her mother screamed, throwing a finger in her direction. " You lied to me Vesteva! I have been worried sick about you all night, calling places that you might have been. When I called the hospital around five thirty and they said that you didn't come, boy, I didn't know what to think! For all I knew, you could have killed yourself or been lying dead somewhere on the streets." Placing her right hand on her hip and her left up to her head, she began to pace. " You know, just, just go to your room. I don't know what your punishment will be yet."

" But mom," Vesteva cried out, salty rivers gliding down her cheek now, she didn't have any strength to hold it in anymore. Her hands reached out for just a little bit of consoling, to let her know that her mother did care for her. She didn't even bother to notice the tears before she came in, asking her what's wrong.

Ignoring her daughters reach as she backed away slowly towards the stairs, her head pointed down with her brown eyes blinking uncontrollably. " Go to your room!" she ordered once more.

Bringing her hand up to her face, she tried to cover all of her tears. Her other arm reached across her stomach, holding onto her sweater as she walked slowly past her mother. They didn't have any eye contact as Vesteva continued to walk up the stairs, looking up to see her sister hiding behind a post. When she looked into her sisters blue eyes to see all the disconcert, with her dark curly hair pulled back, Vesteva broke out a crook of a smile.
