`_`CHAPTER SEVENTEEN`_`

In her dress that was already demolished from everything earlier, Vesteva sat down at the end of the dock. Resting one leg against the edge so that she could slide her shoe off, she did the same to the other. Neatly patting the dress down, she swung her bare feet over the edge, nearly petting the waters below her. As the wind swifted off of the lake, goose bumps developed all over her body, shaking . Sighting the wonderful scenery, it was all a dream.

Standing silently behind her, watching her every move, JC didn't want to disturb her. From what happened earlier, she looked so uplifted like nothing had happened, that the day has been a perfect night. He didn't know what was going through her head but he was sure that the moment was something that she only came upon once in awhile. While her hands folded in her lap, he could tell from the back of her head that a smile was on her face. That was until her head began to bow down and the movement of her body stopped.

Walking behind her, he took his leather jacket that was clutched in his hand, and folded it around her shoulders. Bending his knees, he became eye level with Vesteva. Shocked and surprised, she forgot about where she was. Glancing up at his face for a short second, he noticed that the smile disappeared and washed up in the waters. Putting his hands down, he got himself settled with his feet hanging over the side too. Twiddling her thumbs in a circular motion, she looked up at the clear sky and didn't regard JC. Thinking to herself as she stared up above, her nose became congested from the silent cry. Draping the coat around herself even more, she crossed her arms to stop the cold chills from entering.

" Are you okay? I'm really sorry about earlier, I wanted to tell-," JC began until he was cut off.

" No, no, it's okay. I was just thinking," she sniffed, looking back out into the water. Waiting for each other to come back with a response, Vesteva continued after the long pause. " Have you ever looked at the stars at night?"

Arching an eyebrow, JC faced Vesteva and waited until their gaze met. Her eyes seemed so serious, full of sorrow that he wanted to take away. He knew exactly what she was talking about though, he looked out of his window every night. " Yeah, whenever I have the chance."

Smiling to herself, Vesteva thought about what she was going to say before she said it, " Sometimes, I wish that I wasn't here... that I have no purpose," her voice lowered. " When you look at the stars, they're all the same. Each one is just as equal as the other. Untouchable, in the sky where no one can be reached."

" If I told you I understood, you would think I was lying." JC sighed, moving himself closer to Vesteva.

" What do you mean?" she snapped back.

" Where ever I go I am recognized, being asked for an autograph or a picture to be taken with someone. I'm being judged before people even meet me or get to know me, and to fans I'm someone famous. Never will those words sink into my head." he took a deep breath and gathered all the information that he is releasing to a girl that he barely knew. Looking out into the lake he continued. "I just think of myself as a normal guy, like the guy who sits next to you in class or who delivers your pizzas. But, I'll never be considered normal, I'll always be JC Chasez of NSYNC."

In a low tone she replied, " I would never be able to understand that." Vesteva gave a crook of a smile while shaking her head just slightly.

Giving one last sniff of her nose, she picked up her shoes and brought her feet back up onto the deck. Bringing his feet back and pushing himself up, JC got to his feet before Vesteva could and helped her up. Dusting off her dress, she ran her fingers against the soft satin. This wasn't the way that JC wanted to end the night, he wanted to make it special for her, to erase the bad memories.

She picked up her dress with the other hand so that she was able to see her feet. Beginning to walk off back to the limousine, JC stopped her, cuffing his fingers around her wrist. It pulled her back with a surprise, a smile far from her face. Her dress scratched along the wood, making a loud swish when she turned around to face him. She looked at him deep in his blue eyes, seeing nothing but confusion.

" I told you, you shouldn't get involved with a girl like me," Ves recited once again, darting her eyes. Commencing to pull away and walk back, JC wouldn't let go. Her direction was pointing towards the limousine and she wouldn't turn around for him. " Just let me go."

" Vesteva," he sighed, letting his fingers slip from his grip. " Why do you keep running away?"

Stopping in her tracks, she kept her back facing him, " Because JC, you don't understand either." Slapping her shoes in the air with every syllable. " You are known throughout the world, and my name isn't even known in a high school. You saw what happened! Going to school everyday I am scared out of my mind that something might happen, that someone is going to embarrass me or... or... one day someone is just going to take hating me so much that they go to some extreme to make sure that I never smile again or walk in that building again."

She never shared any of these feelings with anyone in her life, everything was always written down in her journal which was now sheltered at the city dump right about now. Letting everything out verbally was like she was setting herself free. Listening to her express her feelings, JC kept walking closer to her without her knowing. Each word absorbed in his brain, knowing her fears that will likely turn into her future. Though their worlds would usually never clash, he still wanted to keep trying to get into her heart instead of being pushed away from her life.

Breaking down, Vesteva just kept venting, " Then there's the people who feel sorry for you. It makes you feel worthless like you need their pity. You, you, will never feel what I feel because no matter what you do you will always have people there for you. You have never felt what it's like to be lonely and once in awhile I just want someone to come up to me and tell me I did great on something, or that...".

In the middle of the sentence she just stopped. As her body began to feel more loose her shoes slipped from her fingers and bounced, clicking onto the hard wood . Feeling the warm presence of JC standing right behind her, she saw arms beginning to wrap around her body, hushing her to keep quiet. Turning around to face him, she looked up at him and didn't have a word to say. Her arms were locked inside the jacket, but she loved the feeling of her being in his arms. Leaning her head against his shoulder, she shuffled around to get her arms into the arms of the jacket and wrapped them around his neck. Thinking about what she was doing, it felt all wrong but she didn't want to let go.

" I hope you know what you are getting yourself into," Vesteva mumbled, recovering from the verge of wanting to cry earlier.

" I'm here, aren't I?" He responded, copying the words that Caylin used earlier. As the words brought her back to the moment, her chin began to tremble as she chapped her lips together, holding in the tears that were dying to be released. Burying her head deeper into his chest, she straightened her arms out and held onto him tighter.

" And I don't want to miss a thing...." JC whispered finishing the lyrics.

After seeing the two disappear moments later into the limousine, Joey came out from his hiding spot behind the garage. Watching everything that had just happened, he noticed how much he missed it. Whenever he was able to return back home to New York, time was always swallowed because there never was enough. He had a few good friends that he would visit and one girl particular but a romance never came out of it.

Dragging his feet behind him his stomach was all tangled in knots and his head had a sharp pain by the temples. Trying to shake it off, it was too strong for him to just push it away. Reaching the unlocked house door, he walked in with Chris in the kitchen, making a sandwich with the M&M's laying right next to him. Closing his eyes to attempt to block the image, he began to walk unsteadily over to the stairs.

Eyeing him while slopping on the mayonnaise, Chris saw him wobbling back and fourth unable to keep himself steady.

" Hey Joe, are you feeling alright?" he articulated, viewing his sandwich and then back to Joey.

Stopping in his place, he put his hands to his head and he felt like he was spinning in circles. Without answering Chris's question, not having enough in him to speak, he collapsed to the floor.

The night was nearing it's end as the sky grew dark. In the back of the limousine, Vesteva laid her head on JC's chest with his arm wrapped around her. Her eyes closed tight while his stayed open, running his fingers through her dark hair. Thinking about everything that happened today, he still doesn't know where him and Vesteva stood.

The thing was, never had he mentioned that they were leaving in just two days when the promotion at the hospital is over. Then they were heading back to Orlando to start preparing for their world wide tour that was starting in a month. They had to learn dance moves, equipment, costumes and much more in such little time because they wanted to add the extra two week in Chicago. Now that he finally found Vesteva and had her in his arms, he didn't want to let go.

Before falling asleep, Vesteva decided upon dropping her off at Abby's house because if she arrived at home in this homecoming dress, she will never hear the end of it from her mother. Letting her know that Vesteva lied to her about attending the counseling meeting that afternoon, her mother wouldn't let her live it down.

Minutes later the arrived once again at the house with the lights drawn low. The limousine pulled into the driveway as the chauffeur came around to open the door. Rubbing Vesteva's cheek lightly, he whispered her name so that she would be able to wake up. Easing her eyes open, they were brought to a new surrounding as she shook her head lightly, closing her eyes to waken. Getting out of the limo first, JC kept the door wide open for Vesteva as she crawled out with her eyes half open.

Slipping his arm around her waist to keep her steady, they walked up to the door and knocked once. When there was no response to it, Vesteva tried the door knob and it twisted open, revealing them to a bare room. The lights were shut off with Forces of Nature playing. It was right when they just exited the strip club and bought the car, driving while Ben Affleck sings " Sexual animal, eat you like a cannibal". Vesteva had to laugh at the scene while she head his voice float through her ears.

" Abby!" Vesteva called.

Around the couch were papers scattered around with a bunch of cookies and chips. With her arm being used as a pillow, Abby's body laid heavily sleeping. Able to walk by herself now, Vesteva carried her body in front of the television to stare at her somnolent friend. Giving a smile, she then turned around to face the movie to get a glimpse of her favorite actor while continuing to steady herself across the room. Heading towards the spare room, she had to change back into her regular clothes before she returned home.

Following Vesteva into the open part of the house, JC looked around to see if Justin was anywhere in sight. Being disappointed at his short glances from wall to wall, he was unable to find him.

"You know, at a glance you look a lot like Ben Affleck," Vesteva giggled to herself, grabbing JC's attention away.

Pretending that she wasn't talking to him, he looked from side to side and then pointed to himself. " Me? No I don't."

" Yeah you. That's a good thing though." Her voice lowered with each word as she turned the corner.

Without wanting to disturb Abby, JC took a seat in the only available seat in the room. Ruminating the only reason why Justin wasn't in the room either was he had an emergency to attend to, he's just in another room in the house, or Abby sent him home. Hoping that the last thought wasn't what happened, he didn't want to leave the city having a guilty conscience that whatever happened was his fault. He was the one who agreed to everything set up tonight, and he would hate to start things off bad with the tour and leave Abby with a dent in her life because of Justin.

Quickly not knowing hot to react, Chris dropped everything in his hands and ran right over to Joey. His body was stretched along the wooden floor with his eyes closed tightly. Chris's brown eyes widened as he knelt down to his friend, not knowing what to do. Taking his hand, he tried to feel for a pulse in his wrist but it was impossible to find anything, unless there wasn't one.

" Joey man, get up," he whispered, feeling like he was talking to himself. Slapping his lightly across the face a few times, his body was still limp and never moved.

Chris's heart beat began to race, panicking over raged him. His body began to shake and he couldn't keep his hands still. Not being able to bare the sight of one of his best friends just lying there as if he was helpless, he got up and rushed over to the sink. The thought of calling an ambulance never crossed his mind through the mere seconds. As his head started to sweat, he brought his T-shirt collar and wiped it off, while grabbing a dirty glass from the sink. Whispering to himself, " Oh my God" the entire time, he filled the glass with water and quickly dumped it over Joey.

Waiting there with no patience, his feet tapped the floor lingering to see the outcome. Bending back down to him, he took his arm and shook it up and down continuously. Water dripped down the sides of Joey's face like the sweat that was coming from Chris's forehead. Closing his eyes, he didn't notice the slight movement that occurred. Moving his head towards the floor, Joey gave a realization that he was alive. Crunching his eyes, he opened his mouth to reveal his teeth as he gave out a long hiss of pain.

Chris got up, backing off as Joey moved around slowly until he lifted his body up. His eyes awoke slowly, pushing himself up to his feet. Rising a hand to his head, his mind felt so blank.

" What just happened?" he asked, taking his time with each word. Placing a hand on his back, Chris lead him over to the couch in the living room.

" You fainted, man. Or something happened and you blacked out and fell. What the hell have you been doing lately?" Chris asked, demanding to know.

When they came to the couch, Joey dropped his body and nestled his head between two cushions. His body stretched out, not wanting to answer what Chris asked him. He knew that he might overreact, or tell the other guys knowing that it would slip out to the media some how. When he heard Chris clear his throat, he decided to let the truth fly out, risking his secret. " I haven't... I haven't eaten in almost two weeks."

Gasping for air, he couldn't believe what he had just heard. Puzzling all the pieces together, he did notice that Joey hadn't been joining the group lately. His attitude had changed from his usual happy-go-lucky to a lazy, nothing mattered one. Then the other day, JC did comment on how Joey had lost weight and Chris himself did notice it, he just never thought that Joey was doing something like this. Running over to the kitchen, he ran into the refigerator and grabbed a left over piece of pizza. Standing above Joey, he shoved it right into his face.

" Eat this before I shove it down your throat."

Grabbing the piece from Chris's hand, he just stared at it for a few seconds. Knowing that what he doing was right, it felt completely wrong after all that he had accomplished. Dropping weight rapidly was what he wanted to accomplish. From all the jokes that everyone made, he just wanted to show people that he controlled himself and made himself the way he wanted to be. Bringing the pizza up to his face, he began to eat it while Chris watched his every move.
