"Ali? What's the matter." Asked a very confused Jack.
Ali ran into his arms and wept into his shoulder. "It's ok I'm not going anywhere right now. I'm not going anywhere. Shhh it's ok." They stood there like that for a few more minutes with the other guys standing around in a respectful silence.
"I didn't see you in the bed and you're not supposed to get up a lot and I was so afraid something had happened I ..."
"Shhh, baby it's really ok." Jack had to use everything in him to keep from joining her sobs. He knew his time was coming to an end. It had been about nine days since the horrible day in the his doctor's office and his time was growing shorter and shorter everyday. Jack's mind was screaming 5 days 5 days, but his body felt more like 2 and that scared him even more.
"Here," Lance handed her a tissue.
"Thanks Lance, I'm sorry you guys I didn't mean to freak out it's just..."
"It's ok really." Jc said with support.
"Ok," Ali had finished wiping her tears and plastered on a fake smile.
"So what did you guys do?" Jc asked.
"We went to the arcade and then we ahhh we," quietly Ali added, "we played some basketball." Ali looked away from Jack as she said it she looked away from Jack's glare.
"You didn't!" Jack said.
"She is a really fast learner. Within 15 minutes she knew everything. She and Lance even beat us." Justin said who was still amazed.
"Oh she did did she? Ali hun, did you tell them. Ya know what on second thought I can show you." Jack went rummaging in his bag for what looked to be a thin book.
"No Jack please don't not that yearbook!!!" Ali was trying to escape the room, but couldn't due to the fact that Justin had grabbed her before she could move.
"Jack I look like such a well I don't look right." Ali was obviously trying to stall the opening of the book.
"Oh come on Ali you got so many compliments on that picture and it resulted in what? like 10 dates?"
"Yes, but that was the problem. It makes me look like I'm posing for Rolling Stone or something." Ali wished she hadn't said that.
"Now I wanna see too!" shouted Jc.
"Justin please let me go. Please." Cried Ali.
"Nope no way." Justin said tightening his hold on her.
"Here we go. This is our school portraits. Here is Ali's." Jack said passing around the book.
"Ali you look wonderful." Complimented Lance.
The problem wasn't that Ali didn't like her picture it was just the fact that it made her self-conscience. This year was her year to shine. She had definitely blossomed in the past two years and a few weeks ago she had been worrying about what to wear to senior prom. The thought hadn't crossed her mind since the hospital.
"I don't see what was the big deal. You look amazing Ali." Justin said.
"Thank you." Ali was blushing deeply now and was smiling.
"Now for the part that has to do with basketball." Jack said taking back the year-book.
"No Jackers, Jackers please." Ali pleaded.
"Nope sorry, but you hustled these poor guys and now I have to show them." Jack announced.
"What do you mean hustled?" Justin and Joey asked at the same time.
"Justin I'll take hold of Ali for a minute. It looks like your going to pop her head off." Said Lance.
"Ok, but hold her good."
"Come here Ali." Instead of getting a hold on Ali he gave her a great big hug.
"Aww, thanks Lance." Ali said.
"Here this is what I was talking about," Jack showed the team picture of the winning basketball team.
"You are the captain! Of this team?" Asked a dumbfounded Joey.
"Yes, that would be me. Hey I felt bad for Lance because I have seen him play and I thought well actually I knew that you would put us together, so I pretended to be bad. And it worked! What are you going to do?"
"Nothing. For now at least." There was a look of revenge in Justin's eyes.
"Ok, let's go to bed now ok?" Asked Ali.
"What's wrong?" Asked Chris.
"Nothing I just have this feeling of terribleness and I think it's just because I'm tired." Ali said.
"Ok, night all."
With that the lights went out and everyone went to sleep. Everyone except Jack. There was something wrong and he could feel it. It was harder to breath and his chest began to hurt a lot more. Unfortunately he thought it too was lack of sleep. Oh how wrong he was.
