Chapter 21

"Oh, Nicky, where are you!"  The shrill voice called from the dance floor they’d just retreated from.  Lizard gulped and her hands turned icy, feeling Nick’s hands tense up from where they were resting on the small of her back.  She backed away from him and he bowed his head.
"I'm so sorry, Liz," he whispered.  He leaned over and kissed her again quickly.  He pulled away and turned to go back out, but then rushed back over suddenly, surprising Lizard.  She barely could control her breathing as he kissed her again, deeply, so much emotion and passion being shared between the two of them.
        "Nicky?"
They finally broke apart and Lizard looked towards the curtain, seeing Carla’s blonde bob peeking in and staring at the two of them.
"I can’t believe you," she exclaimed, walking in and standing in front of them, her hands on her hips.  She tapped her perfectly manicured nails on the hem of her designer blouse and arched one perfectly plucked eyebrow.  "What do you think you’re doing with my man, bitch?"  She demanded, getting in Lizard’s face.
"I-I-I beg your pardon?"  Lizard managed to get out.  She knew she couldn’t ever live up to the model-like figure in front of her.  At 5’8", without heels, Carla was a model undiscovered.  Her natural blonde hair was cut to a chin-length bob, her bright blue eyes that were wide for the world to see, a peaches and cream complexion, and a perfect size six figure.  In one word Lizard could describe her, perfect.
"You heard me, what are you doing with my man?  Why are you kissing him?!"  Carla hollered.
"I-I-" Lizard couldn’t talk, she just kept stuttering.  She closed her mouth and looked at Nick, feeling like she was going to cry.
"I'm not your man, Carla," Nick finally said quietly.  He cleared his throat.  "I'm not your man, and I never will be.  I want you to leave," he said, speaking louder.
"What?  What has she done to you, Nicky, she brainwashed you!"  Carla exclaimed, reaching for his hand.
"Stop!  Stop calling me Nicky!  And don’t touch me!"  Nick yelled, backing away from her.  Lizard had never felt so scared, she practically tripped over her own two feet as Nick dragged her out of Carla’s reach.
"Nicky, she’s done something to you.  Come on, honey, let’s go home and get in bed, ok?"  Carla said, smiling sweetly, the scowl she’d just had gone, replaced by her bright white smile.
"No, you’re moving out of there, that isn’t your home anymore, its mine.  Have your stuff out of there by the time I get there or the Salvation Army will be receiving a large shipment in later tomorrow," Nick warned, wrapping his arm around Lizard’s shoulders and leading her past Carla.
"I should’ve known you were cheating on me with that whore."
Nick and Lizard both froze.  Lizard felt a tear fall down her cheek slowly, and she made no move to wipe it away.  She hurried out of the room, bumping into people on her way out.  She ran outside and hopped in a taxi that was just about to pull away after dropping someone off.  She told the driver to get her back to her hotel and she cried the whole way there.  Once there, she reached into her purse that she didn’t even realize she was holding and paid the man, then ran inside.  She gathered all her bags and called herself another cab.  While she waited the twenty minutes, she took a quick shower, washing away any memory of Nick or her last night with the group.  She hurried outside fifteen minutes after she’d packed her things and got in her cab, heading home.

"Where’s Lizard going?  What the hell is going on?"  Dennis asked as Lizard rushed past him and out the door.
"I don’t know, but I have a pretty good idea who to ask," Tommy said as he stood up from his seat and started for the curtain Lizard had just come out of.  He whipped it aside and saw Carla standing in front of Nick, cursing him off.
"And instead of calling me to come and join you, you had to turn to her, a whore, you lying son of a bitch bastard!"  She hollered, pushing Nick back into Tommy.
"I did no such thing, Carla, you cheated on me before I left and I wouldn’t be surprised if I found out that you had the entire time I was gone.  I had asked you several times to come out here, but you never did.  Instead, you went and screwed your ex behind my back!  If anyone’s the whore, its you, not Liz!  Liz is the most caring, sweetest, kindest human being I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and you just upset her more than she ever has been!  Get out of here, get your stuff out of my house, and get the hell out of my life!"  Nick yelled.
Carla seemed to jump back, then sprung forward and started hitting him.  She slapped him over and over, hitting his arms and shoulders and head.  Tommy ran over and tried to pull her off of him, finding himself backed up by AJ and Brian.
"Control yourself, Carla!"  AJ yelled at her, holding one of her arms as she struggled against the three of them.  She finally stopped squirming and yanked her arms out of their grasp.
"Let me go, dammit!"  She yelled, pushing them away from her.  She glared up at Nick, who was still cowering slightly in the corner.  "I will get revenge, Carter, you wait and see," she threatened, giving him the evil eye.  She stalked out of the club, her head held high, getting in her car and leaving.
"You ok, Nick?"  Brian asked as he hurried over to his best friend.
"Ye-yeah, I th-think so," Nick stuttered out, still in slight shock.  He winced.  "But I'm going to be sore tomorrow," he added, reaching up and touching his face gingerly.
"Damn, what came over her?"  Brian said, looking at Nick’s face.
"I don’t know, but whatever it was, scared the living daylights out of Liz.  Where is she?"  Nick asked Tommy.
Tommy sighed, shaking his head.  "She’s gone, Nick, she ran out of here ten minutes ago.  I seriously doubt she’ll be any place you can find her anytime soon.  When she wants to hide, she can do it well," he said.  He watched as Nick ran out of the club and to the door, probably catching a taxi back to the hotel, hoping he would catch Lizard.
"He’ll never find her, will he?"  Dennis asked from behind him.
Tommy shook his head and turned to look at his friend.  "Nope, we’ll be lucky if she even stays in one place for more than a day.  She’s going to try to get as far away from this as possible."
"You know where she’s going, don’t you?"  Dennis said, more of an insinuation than a question.
"Sure do," Tommy replied, walking away from his friend and sitting back down.  He ordered another drink and gulped down the rest of the left over bottle of water.  He shook his head as the club returned to its full-swing mode, trying to knock it all out of his head.
