Royal Exchange Hotel Cork Club

A brief history

The Royal Exchange Hotel (REH) Cork Club was formed in 1973 to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. It began when three mates drinking in the bar at the Royal Exchange Hotel decided to do something for the kids of Victoria. The sole purpose of the Royal Exchange Hotel Cork Club is to raise money for this Appeal.

The Royal Exchange Hotel Cork Club quickly grew from these humble beginnings to become the Premier Fundraising Hotel for the state in 1978. Since then the Royal Exchange Hotel has won this prestigious award another ten times including 2004, as well as winning the Top Country Fundraising Hotel 26 times (including the last 22 in a row). This has enabled us to raise approximately $938,000. This year the Royal Exchange Hotel is looking forward to raising another $62,000 to pass the One Million Dollars since 1973.

The tremendous effort is due to a dedicated group of volunteers (both past and present) who freely give their time and energy for this wonderful cause. The support of business people and the general public has enabled the REH Cork Club to raise funds to assist the Hospital with Research and Development projects, as well as to help purchase state of the art medical equipment.

The REH Cork Club currently raises funds in a variety of ways, including the following:-

*   Craft Market    *   Santa visits
*   Weekly Raffles    *   BBQ Catering service
*   Annual Golf Day   *   Door Knock Appeal
*   Collection Tin activities  *   Dinner Auction
*   Good Friday Family Fun Day  *   LV Street Machine Show
*   and more

The reputation of the work that the Royal Exchange Hotel Cork Club does for the Good Friday Appeal not only encompasses the Gippsland area, but all over Victoria, including Melbourne. Many people who are travelling through Traralgon will stop in at the Royal Exchange Hotel and have a meal or a drink, and check out the many awards located around the Hotel showing the work of the REH Cork Club.
