save haven

Welcome to the Save Haven homepage.

Haven is a three year old mixed breed "terrier mix" but those who adopt know that "terrier mix" means they have no idea what breed the dog is. When Haven was one year old, she had experienced her first seizure. I was on my day off, watching tv and messing around with the computer. My wife was visiting her parents for her father's retirement party. I started to hear this sound that sounded like something was beating on a drum. I went out to check what it was thinking that the ceiling fan had broken, and saw Haven entering the "post-ictal" phase of a seizure. About three months or so had passed, and she had another seizure. She continued to having seizures and I took her to the vet. We ended up with her on daily medication for the rest of her life. She takes Phenobarbitol, and Potassium Bromide. Ever since it has been more or less touch and go. She takes her meds, every once in a while she has a seizure, but other than that she is pretty much seizure free.

I created this website in order to document Haven's ongoing fight against her epilepsy. Her progress and setbacks. Medication types, treatments, what has worked and what hasen't.
