Sea Doo GS & GSi Update Course

Program Description

The Bombardier Dealer Training course is designed to teach participants new service technology techniques used on 2005 and 2006 Sea Doo type 717 engines. This is blended course with three hours presented in an online environment and 8 hours in a lab invironment at the MMI Orlando Campus.

During the coursework the participants will be presented with:

  • Factory special tools
  • Battery powered capacitor discharge ignition system
  • Peak voltage adapter and digital multimeter usage
  • Sea Doo MPEM troubleshooting

To allow the participant to enhance and develop the necessary skills to properly diagnose a model year 2005/2006 Sea·Doo watercraft with a battery powered capacitor discharge ignition system.

Lesson Goals

Competency 1: The participants will identify components and testing procedures for a Sea Doo Battery Powered Ignition system. This will be demonstrated by the participants completing a written exam with 80 percent accuracy.

Objectives:

1.1        Identify the diagnostic equipment and proper procedures for testing a Yuasa 12 volt watercraft battery.

1.2        Identify the proper diagnostic procedures for Bombardier’s Digitally Encoded Security System

1.3        Identify the proper diagnostic procedures for testing the ignition system’s means of control (start/stop switch).

1.4        Identify the diagnostic equipment and proper procedures for testing the ignition system’s main chassis ground.

1.5        Identify the diagnostic equipment and proper procedures for testing battery voltage at the Multi Purpose Electronic Module (MPEM) system output.

1.6        Identify the diagnostic equipment and proper procedures for testing capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) system output.

1.7        Identify the diagnostic equipment and proper procedures for testing the CDI ignition coil.

Competency 2:    Each participant will accurately diagnose an ignition system malfunction using classroom notes and an OEM service manual. This will be demonstrated by each participant properly diagnosing a defective craft, isolating the problem to the exact component causing the malfunction (skills assessment).

 Objectives:

2.1        Determine the operational condition of the craft’s battery.

2.2        Determine if the craft’s Digitally Encoded Security System is operating properly.

2.3        Determine if the ignition system’s means of control (start/stop switch) is functioning properly.

2.4        Determine if the craft’s main chassis ground is electrically sound.

2.5        Determine if battery power is present at the MPEM

2.6        Determine if the capacitor discharge ignition system output is within factory specification.

2.7        Determine if the ignition coil is functioning properly.

Measurement of Objectives

  • Attendance requirements: There are no attendance requirements for this course. However, it is the participants’ responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximize their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities.
  • Requirements for participants to complete the final exam satisfactorily, obtaining a minimum score of 80%.
  • Requirements for participant to be awarded a passing grade in the course: To be assured of a passing grade, students must demonstrate, via the skills assessment, that they have achieved the required minimum standards in relation to the objectives of the course by satisfactorily completing all summative assessment items.
