Second Skin Spectrum is a multi layer composite consisting of 4 highly
effective layers, a perfect balance of mass loading dampers and sound
absorbing barriers. This material reduces shock, vibrations, road noise,
engine noise and helps eliminate nasty cabin reverb.
Layer 1: 43 mils of SBS modified rubberized asphalt
pressure sensitive adhesive to absorb vibrations and limit panel flexing.
Layer 2: A tough cross-laminated polyethylene
film is laminated to 4 mils aluminum foil to protect against heat,
and provide a reflective sound restraint.
Layer 3: An additional 43 mils of rubberized
asphalt adding mass to the first 2 layers and absorbing additional
shock caused by road noise and engine resonance.
Layer 4: An extremely dense closed
cell foam used as a sound barrier.
Measuring 3/8 inches, this last layer is the most important
element in the spectrum composite. The foam absorbs sound from 2 problem
areas, the road and the cabin. Road noise from your tires, engine and
exhaust get halted while trying to enter your car, and cabin nose, such
as cabin reverb and echoes are absorbed before having a chance to spread
to other vulnerable areas of your car.
Due to the extreme weight of this material we strongly recommend that
when installing Second Skin Spectrum you use an additional adhesive
to help secure the bond between the surface area and Spectrum. We recommend
the installation of Second Skin Spectrum on any high vibration &
resonating areas of your car, including: Inner door skins, ceiling,
cabin side fire-wall, front dash, rear dash & trunk floor &
walls. Second Skin Spectrum is not designed for use under the hood of
your car or in any part of the engine compartment.
