When breeding bettas, you can breed them in a aquarium between 2 and 10 gallons. Fill tank up to the middle. Adding a little salt can be helpful. The temperature to start breeding is 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Then cover the tank. Put a styrofoam cut in half inside the tank, you can put a plastic lid, or a floating plant.
Then put the male in the tank so he get used to it. He should start to build a bubble nest. If not place the female in the tank. The female must be in a breeding trap or hurricanelamp. The female should become ripe with eggs and shows horizontal lines. A white oviductshould also show. If it does not show then she is not ready. When she shows these let her out in the tank. The male will then chase her around the tank under the nest. If she doesn't accept his advances then take her out before she is killed.
The male will then wrap his body around the female under the nest.
