Jesse Caryl from the Bench sent me 3 2003 Topps Gallery HOF that I need. Only need one more to complete the base set (Ryan--which I am bidding on at Bidville--don't outbid me!). I have a few of the proofs too and will slowly work on that set as they are pretty cool looking. But that isn't a priority set for me.

Busy day today. Went to Gibraltar's card show today. Picked up 4 cards from the 1965 set I am working on for 75. Also picked up an assortment of singles from sets I am building.

Later, Trevor and I attended the Monster Jam show at the Silverdome in Pontiac. Great show! Trevor was "Awed" and amazed. We got there at 5:30 and stayed to the end at 11:30 pm. He was wide awake, thrilled, and excited about seeing the Monster Trucks like GraveDigger that he loves. We play a monster truck game on the computer at home all the time.

I went to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this morning (bitterly cold with 8" of snow last night). Crowds were pretty light (it is a Thursday) but that suits me fine. I hate crowds. I went by myself rather than dragging the wife and kid. This way I could spend more time lingering at the cars and listening to (and admiring!!) the models.

Tonight, I received packages from Mark Whitaker and Tammy Peterson. Mark is from Habrough, England. Not sure where that is,though. He sent some 2003 Topps inserts and 2000 Vanguard that were on my wantlist. Tammy is from Ankeny, Iowa. Don't know exactly where that is either, but this is the third person I have traded with from that town. Scott Arterburn and John McGivern are the others. So, I think they love their baseball card collecting there. Or, maybe there isn't much else to do there!

I got the '65 Topps Rose and Maris today from Ebay. Also got a '55 Harvey Kuenn for my Tigers collection. Also in today's mail was a package of 2003 Topps All Time Fan Favorites from Jack Downs (from Trading Bases). I think this completes my set. Thanks, Jack.
The last few days brought in packages from Greg Whitehill, Barry Lawrence, , and Gary Beard from Trading Bases.

I've spend a lot of time working on my tradelist this weekend. It is not yet published, but when it is, I'll be on my Trade Page here at Angelfire. There currently is a tradelist there, but it is pretty old. Eventually, I'll list all of my cards for trade (most are just for sets--not a whole lot of inserts, stars and/or rookies).

Just won a 1965 Topps Pete Rose # 207 on Ebay for $21.00! I have tried to get such a card for over a year. This one is not the best condition, but, oh, well. Spent over 2 years working on the '65 set and now I am down to the nitty gritty. Most of the cards I need are either stars or rookies, so I know it will be rough going. But I will get it done (if my wife doesn't scream at me too much).

Well! It's been 9 months since I've been here. Things get hectic and it has been hard to keep up.

Happy New Years to you! I've been watching the football games today, but all have been dull, lobsided games. Iowa is kicking but, but Purdue is getting their butts kicked. Michigan and USC go at it in an hour. I want UM to win, but I predict: USC 27 Mich 17.

Finishing up a deal with Gary Beard at Trading Bases. I'll be sending Gary some '72, '73, '74, and '99 Topps for some cards I need from '70, '72 Topps and other sets.

Worked out a trade with Barry Lawrence, also from Trading Bases, last night. Barry will be getting some '73 Topps. He'll send some '04 Topps and other cards out to me. Barry is in Utah. This is the first Utah person I have ever traded with!

So, I hope to keep up my trade posts more diligantly in 2004 (Hey, I told my wife I'm not making any New Year resolutions, but this sure sounds like one)!

Also, I added a guest book to this page. I would really appreciate it if some of you signed it, just so I can see who is actually reading this stuff. So far, the page has had 181 hits. These all came from my Sportscardfun page I presume.

Whew!! I've got a lot of catching up to do. I have been plenty busy the past couple of weeks. Many trades have been completed or are in the process. I'll try to remember them. Been out of town in Ohio, battled snow storms, took Trevor to the circus and a train show....Well, let's try to get up to speed here.

On the trading front: The Bench has been a hotbed for me lately. Last week, I bought a box of 2003 Topps Heritage at Gibraltar Trade Center (the monthly card show there). I haven't finished the 2002 set (pesky SPs), but I really like the 1954 look of the 2003 set, so I decided to take the plunge. I didn't do too bad with the set (I'll put a link in here a little later which describes my box break), but I found over 30 duplicates were in the box. So I posted a trade notice on the Bench. Got a lot of responses and eventually made trades with Legacy, EELindy, DCB11, and BoSox48.

Next, I started the 2003 Fleer Tradition set by buying singles rather than a box. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this set again as the first 100 cards are also SPs like last year. But I do like the 1963 Fleer styling and have picked up quite a few more via a trade with Bob D'Angelo on the Bench and by having winning bids from Raul Rovner's auctions on Bidville. So got a good starter set going, but still no SPs. May have to buy a box to get started on those.

A host of other trades have been made. Some have been completed, some I am waiting for the cards. One good trade was with Vaughn Kastner from Trading Bases. I picked up a good 1992 Leaf starter set, some 1999 SP Authentics, and a good starter of 1990 Senior League. These are former major leaguers playing in a winter league in Florida. Pretty cool looking cards.

What else? Hmm, did a couple of trades on CardEdge.com for Jim Edmonds cards. One was from Shandi12 and another trade was with Fossil Man. Haven't received the cards from either of these two yet, though. Worked on a fairly large trade with Chris Williams (Pavement) on SCF. I sent Chris a bunch of Cardinals for 2000 Fleer Tradition, 1990 Leaf, 2000 Aurora. Got some oldies again from Bob Brady from Trading Bases. I sent some Fleer Futures to Ron Taylor in England for some 2000 Aurora. Keeping the international flavor, I sent some 1979 Topps to Rodrick MacKinnon in Toronto for a selection of '89 Donruss and '02 Fleer. Bruce Wells from Trading Bases is sending some '02 EXs for some '01 UDs and '02 Vintage. Coolcardboard is sending me something (I can't think of what it is though) for 1983 Topps among others. I also bought about 40 1994 Topps Archives 1954 from JooBoos on Bidville These cards are reprints of the original 1954 Topps set. Did I cover them all? Not sure of that at all.

Last week, I took Trevor to the Royal Hannaford circus in Port Huron, MI with my brother, his daughter, and my mom. Trevor saw this same circus at the Palace last year, but still enjoyed it. The ride home was horrible though. We started to get a bad ice storm that evening. Driving was treacherous. I drove slowly on the freeway. A bunch of semis whizzed by me. Made it home OK, but the next day, we got our final snow storm of the winter (at least, I hope it was the final one). I had to pull the snow blower out one more time. Two days later, the temps got into the 70s!

Today, Tracie had to work, so I took Trevor to a toy train show at the Lionel Trains HQ. Lionel, however, is moving from our county (they are only about 5 miles from my home) to another country soon. So this was a last chance to visit their showroom. Trevor had a great time looking at the HUGE train layout (must have been as big as my house), sitting with the Easter Bunny, taking a train ride outside, and wanting to buy all the trains in the gift shop.

I'll be back tomorrow or Monday, I hope, to let you know how the other trades have turned out.

I traded a pack of 1988 Topps to another guy for a 1956 Mantle! Take a look

Received a package from Sean Huffine. Got many 2000 Fleer Tradition and a few 2002 Fleer (not Tradition). Bid on many 2003 Fleer Tradition on Bidville today as well.

Opening Day! More cold weather, more snow, another Tigers loss. Doesn't anything ever change? Mike Maroth did pitch a good game. He was done it by the shortened fence in LF. Mohr's HR barely made it over. I think everyone thought that was what would happen when the fence at Comerica was brought in. The Tigers don't have enough power for it to make a difference for them. They only had 2 hits out of the infield today. Defense looked good, though.

March 25, 2003

Many thanks to Jennifer Setaro for sending me 1978 Topps #707 (Trammell/Molitor RC) as a gift! Great trader for those in CardTradingFools.com.

Also got a Kirk Gibson Stadium Club Jersey card, 1983 Topps Wade Boggs RC(which I thought finished that set, but I still need 298 782 636 765 771), and UD World Series Heroes #85 which did indeed finish that set. A pretty good day, I would think!

March 25, 2003

Received some inserts I won from Bidville. They are 2000 Stadium Club Onyx Extreme. Black cards. Very sleek looking. Think I'm going to put this set together. Also got the last two 2001 Fleer Gamers I needed to finish that set. Relatively easy base set to put together.

March 24, 2003

Anne Lindsley's package arrived today, as well as cards I bought from "Legacy" on The Bench. I am working on another deal with him. He wants to sell cards due to being laid off and I am interested in buying some. But now he comes back and asks for any 2002 cards in return for what I am interested in (which is just 88 and 89 Donruss, 1975 Topps, and 2002 Fleer). OK, that's fine, but now I realize that I am starting to run low on 2002 cards to trade. Time to replenish my trading stock. I haven't purchased much in new products lately. So far in 2003, I have bought only one box of 2003 UD Vintage (which was a total dud, but that's another story). I have been mainly trading for and buying cards to fill holes in sets that I am currently working on--which is a lot. No need to add more at this time. Got more than enough sets to keep me busy for awhile.

March 23, 2003

We went to the Detroit Piston's game vs. the Bulls tonight. A group of Tracie's co-workers went as well. Trevor was geeked. With pop and cotton candy, I should say so! He shouted out "Defense" when everyone else did. Whenever Ben Wallace did something and the announcer would say his name, Trevor would yell out "Ben Wallace". Now, he has no idea what "defense" is or who Ben Wallace is (although he got a huge kick out of seeing fans wearing wigs that looked like Ben's Afro). He just loved the atmosphere there. It was like a huge party.

Gotta hand it to the Piston's as they know marketing. When we go to the Tiger's games, Trevor is bored stiff. After one inning, he wants to ride the carousel or Ferris Wheel at Comerica Park. The only thing about baseball games that excite him are watching Bobby Higginson and the fireworks after the game (provided he can stay up that late).

March 22, 2003

Today, Tracie, Trevor, and I went to the Home and Garden Show at Cobo Hall in Detroit. While there, we met Karen Newman sitting at one of the booths. For those of you not from Detroit, Karen is one of the most noted personalities in Detroit. She sings the national anthemn at the Red Wings games. Oh, and she is quite lovely, too. But, Karen is also one of the nicest and most approachable personalities in Detroit! Tracie told Karen today that we met her at an autograph session a few years ago when Tracie was pregnant with Trevor. Karen got quite a kick out of Trevor. She told us that today is her twins first birthday. She had to be at the show for promotional reasons, but she really wanted to be home. Trevor then moved toward her. Karen opened her arms thinking Trev wanted to hug her. But then he pointed at her lapel pin, which was an American flag that lit up. She gave him a big hug and personalized an autograph photo for him, saying "You are so cute".

Now all this time, daddy was wishing he could have a big hug from Karen Newman, too! Oh well, just seeing her made my day and I'll treasure her photo (er, I should say Trevor will treasure it).

Didn't do too bad in the first round of the NCAA. 24 wins. And my CMU Chippewas pulled off the upset win against Creighton just as this old time Chip alumni predicted!

Received one on my last 2 2001 Topps Stars cards today. Only need one more and that one is on its way. Also recieved the last Skybox E-Ticket needed to complete that insert set.

Won a 1983 Topps Wade Boggs RC on Ebay for $1.25 today. This used to be a higher priced RC. This is the last card I needed for my '83 set. Did pretty good today in closing out sets.

Bid on a bunch of 2000 Fleer Tradition cards on Bidville today. A nickel each. Just getting rolling on this set.

March 20, 2003

Ah, those women from Maine come through! I got my cards from June Maxwell (Alexander ME) and Jennifer Shook (Cushing ME) today.

Jenn completed my 1982 Topps set with # 12. She also gave me a great mixture of oldies and 2002 cards.

June gave me quite a few older Donruss and some great Shawn Green cards. Great trading with both of you!

Also received a long overdue package from Scott Arteburn from Bidville. Trevor got another good sized selection of Spiderman and Marvel cards today from bigjohnson from The Bench. Thanks, guys.

Good news: Today is the last day of winter. Bad news: the war. Hopefully, it will end soon.

March 18, 2003

Bob Brady send his cards to me priority and I received them in less than two days! Bob gave me a great 2000 Fleer Tradition starter set as well as a good supply of 1977 Topps. I also received a package of assorted 70s Topps from Todd McGee.

Anne Lindsley contacted me with trade offer. It has taken quite a bit of work (several hours over the course of a few days) to get it all together. It is a pretty large trade. I don't know where Anne is from (SCF, CTF, Beckett?) but apparently, she saw my page and gave me a ring. I have been getting quite a few notes from new traders. My page must be reaching some people that I'm not aware of.

Also, I am starting trade talks with Rodrick McKinnon. I came across his page on Geocities. It has been a busy week!

March 15, 2003

Finally! Finally!! Finally, got a nice day around here. In the 60s and sunny! My wife (Tracie), Trevor, and I took a long walk on a beautiful path in the woods at Dodge Park in Sterling Hts. MI. Lovely park. Very refreshing.

Received cards I won from Stu Gash's auction. Among my winnings were a Kevin Brown Fleer Authority GU Pants and Andre Dawson SP Legendary Bat card.

Working out details of trades with Bob Brady (77 Topps and 00 Fleer Tradition), John Salkiewicz (Marvel cards for Trevor), Jennifer Shook (I'm send her a bunch of older Topps).

March 14, 2003

Colin Mercer sent a large stack of cards that included 1993 Conlon Collection that I needed. Great cards featuring outstanding B/W photos taken by Charles Conlon in the early part of the 20th century. Colin also sent some 88 and 89 Donruss. He has started a new card supply business called NW Card Supplies.

Got a trade ready to roll with June Maxwell. Not sure where she is from but she saw my Angelfire trade page and found a bunch of stuff I need, including cards for my Shawn Green collection and the last insert I need for my 2002 UD Greatest Hits set.

March 13, 2003

Today I recieved my card from Andrea Smernoff . Andrea is a friendly trader from New York whom I've traded with many times. She is looking for '54 and '59 Topps. Also, my son, Trevor, got his Batman cards from Bob D'Angelo. Trevor is getting into card collecting pretty good for a 4 year old. He has about 1000 cards! Mostly Spiderman and Superheroes.

March 12, 2003

Didn't get any cards in the mail today. Will spend some time putting cards on my trade lists then will upload to my trade page. Later, while watching an old Steve McQueen war move, "Hell is for Heroes" (A fellow trader, Ryan Cracknell, reviews this film on rottentomatoes.com), I worked on reorganizing my Detroit Tiger collection. I'm trying to get the newer cards in a binder.

March 11, 2003

I received a cool card I won on Ebay today: 2003 Topps Heritage Grandstand Glory Al Kaline Tiger Stadium Seat card. A major asset to my new Al Kaline collection. If I did the scan thingie right, it should be at the top of this page.

Bob D'Angelo from the Bench sent me some 1973 and 1974 Topps cards from a recent trade. Includes a '73 Brooks Robinson.

Got a card I won from Bidville today that seals a set I've been working on: 2002 UD Sweet Spot # 55 Prior. Last card I needed. Set wasn't too difficult to put together...Umm, scratch that. I put the card in its binder and found I already have it. I actually need #52. I went to Beckett to get it.

March 10, 2003

I am starting a daily log of transactions and other ramblings. Received these cards from Mark Wing from The Bench: 1979 Topps #95 Yount, #115 Ryan, #700 Jackson,#715 Braves Prospects, #716 Cubs Prospects, 1982 Topps #677. Now I only need #12 to complete the '82 set.

Received from Peter Acevedo from Bidville: 2000 Skybox E-Ticket #15 Randy Johnson. This was the last card I needed from this insert set. Peter is the owner of The Bench.
