YWCA MISSION
Our YWCA began serving our great-grandmothers in 1885 and today continues to be responsive to its members and their families. During the early days, we moved from one rented facility to another then in 1910, the Association raised over $11,000 to purchase a home on North Main Street in Gloversville (opposite the old GHS Building), where it was possible to have rooms to rent to young working women, a cafeteria, and classes in foreign languages as well as cooking, sewing, tennis, basketball and other sports! After several other moves, our YWCA relocated to its present facility on Bleecker Street in 1949. The YWCA continues to serve area women and teenaged girls with innovative programs, and hosts such groups as the Business & Professional Women, the Council of Church Women and Intercultural League. Today, the YWCA continues its 114 year tradition of communtiy service with a wide range of programs for area women, children and families.
