"The war should never have been fought and has gone badly from day one."

Air Force Major Paul Evans served voluntarily in Iraq when asked.  He served twice without complaint.
He is an expert in aircraft tracking systems and part of the Oregon National Guard's 728th Air Control Squadron.
During two tours of Iraq, he has seen the nation further descend into chaos and unchecked violence.

1.  The first major error was the invasion...  Iraq was contained and posed no tactical threat.
2.  The second major error was underdeployment of troops.  The commanders in the field and the Pentagon
made it clear that they needed 300 thousand troops.  Their concerns were ignored.

According to this veteran of the war, Iraq now poses more of a threat than it did under Saddam.

►                            We talk. They fought.   (Sunday, 1/08/2006, The Oregonian )
In the political uproar over the war in Iraq, it's easy to miss the voices of those who served there.
