Oregon Corporations   The Minimum Wage      War Profiteering:  Let's talk about it
This week, Congress is debating the supplemental funding bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our friends at True Majority have an important action urging Congress to stop pork barrel funding for C-17 transport planes even the military doesn't think we need. I hope you'll have a look and take action; we have far more important uses for our tax dollars than this.
Kate Stayman-London, CREDO Action

No one wants these war planes except Congress.

It's time for a responsible budget.
Tell Congress: Don't waste our tax dollars on pork barrel defense contracts we have too many desperate needs to put up with shennanigans like this.

Remember when we said last month that this year could be our chance to finally cut Pentagon waste and focus the budget on things we want like healthcare, education and jobs? Well the real fight over that vision starts today. It's time to get busy.

The full Pentagon budget hasn't even been drafted yet. But some members of Congress are already trying to slip billions of dollars of pork-barrel weapons projects into the supplemental budget request for Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tell Congress not to slip pork-barrel contracts into the Iraq/Afghan funding bill.

We're not happy about the continuing costs of the wars, but what's worse is this attempt to slip in even more money for C-17 transport planes we don't need. The Air Force doesn't want these planes, and the Secretary of Defense explicitly asked to *cut* them from the budget. The only people who still want the planes are the contractors who make money even if the finished planes sit idle, and the members of Congress who get campaign money from the contractors.

This type of thing has been going on for so long, we've forgotten how to be shocked by it, but we need to remember.

This budget is supposed to be about what troops in the field need to keep fighting and Congress wants to stuff it full of billion-dollar planes we don't need. If we can't stop them now, imagine what it will be like when we actually get to the budget for planes and bombs.

But if we can hold the line, and keep this supplemental vote clear of pork-barrel spending, we've got a chance to change America's priorities for good.

Tell Congress to keep Pentagon pork OUT of the President's supplemental and focus on True Security.

Bush and his motley crew already have already systematically
compromised the federal government.  Now the people who threw the bums out,
(most working people in America) have to attempt to rebuild this nation.

Corporate hegemony is simply a bad idea.  Allowing the CEO's for transnational economic
cartels to run this nation has been an unmitigated disaster.  They have no loyalty to this country.
This is why they exported jobs, catered to the interests and eccentricities of Saudi royal families,
and invested in China, India, and the corporate occupation of  Iraq for eight years while our
nation's economy took a nose-dive. Now skilled professionals and responsible adults must fix it.

The "too big to fail" businesses must be nationalized.  And sooner would be better than
later according to most economists from both sides of the aisle.  It might surprise some on
the right and left to be informed that this process has already begun.
If we continue the difficult and complicated nationalization of critical industries, and then include
both our failed schools, and dysfunctional healthcare system... we might just have a chance of rebuilding the necessary foundations for the next century. Extracting reparations from the crime families and profiteers  who have ransacked this nation for eight years would also be prudent.  And a bit of jail time might be just what the doctor ordered.

Real conservatives and traditional American liberals are banding together to save us from the con-men, criminals, syncophants, thieves, drug-addled talk-show hosts, and tap-dancing buffoons.

Most Corrupt Officials in the Bush AdministrationHome  WASHINGTON - Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan blames President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for efforts to mislead the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity of a CIA operative.  In an excerpt from his forthcoming book, McClellan recount the 2003 news conference in which he told reporters that aides Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were "not involved" in the leak involving operative Valerie Plame.  "There was one problem. It was not true," McClellan writes, according to a brief excerpt released Monday. "I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself."

A failed Administration:  Corrupt and Criminal Contempt

To acquiesce in allowing corruption to run rampant is to become a collaborator.  If you are against torture, secret prisons, covert propaganda campaigns, and violations of national and international law, you must contact your elected representatives in Congress and demand that George W. Bush be impeached.
Considering the Bush administration's history of corruption and scandal, Bill Clinton's impeachment may prove to have been a trivial waste of resources by comparison.
This time around we are talking about possible treason and violations of federal and international and law by the US President and his advisors.

One of Washington's most well-known (industry-funded)lobbyists
smears labor Unions .
The AFL-CIO labor union has found that is a front group designed to stealthily aid business groups. AFL-CIO spokeswoman Esmerelda Aguilar sent AlterNet a document stating in part: is a project of the Chamber of Commerce, according to an anonymous source. In a meeting of the State Chambers of Commerce National Conference held on Sanibel Island in Florida on Jan. 26, the Chamber announced it was spending $8 million a year to launch this anti-union website.

Berman's rebuttal to this charge, as reported by the New York Times, is that "when he spoke at the conference, [Berman] neither asked for nor received contributions. Rather, he said, he asked chamber officials to recommend that businesses in their states donate to his efforts."

It's this kind of sly language, hinging on technicalities, that has kept the origin of the anti-union smear campaign under wraps. Richard Berman is not in the business of finding solutions. He's a generator of PR smear campaigns to benefit the many corporations to which he is beholden.
